Just back from Anse Chastanet

We visited AC 7 or 8 years ago and absolutely loved the place - especially its remote and quiet nature. I read here on the forum that some of the newer hotels in the area use the beach at Anse Chastanet. While I realize that they have every right to do this as all beaches on St. Lucia are considered public, I worry that the scene on the beach may be somewhat more lively than I recall - and therefore less appealing to us. I'd be grateful for any comments you may have.

Lin:
We're going to AC April 26th. Can't wait. Did you take the meal plan and if so, was it worth it? Did you use AC to arrange activities for you, and if so, which ones. Any recommendations on who to use for a day sail or catamaran? Did they upgrade your room? I'd love to see your trip report as well.

We're going there June 7th. Staying in a standard room. If you saw those rooms or where they were, which one do you think would be the best to request for breeze, view, etc?
How was their buffet nights? Did you go to Dasheene for dinner and how easy was it to get there?

AC is wonderful and I would highly recommend it, particularly for a honeymoon. The beach is fairly quiet because, even though it is public, it is only accessible by water. We were upgraded from a deluxe to a premium and our room was spectacular (7D). It was private and had a wonderful view. We took the all inclusive package as we did not want to go out for meals (the road is pretty awful and it takes a while to get anywhere). Food was great, beautifully presented and, if you do not have a package, quite expensive. The people are very friendly and we did not have any bad experiences at all - loved it!! There is plenty to do. The mountain biking ($45 US) is worth doing, hiking the rain forest ($45) was fabulous and we also scuba-ed and snorkel-ed. There is plenty to do (or not) and we plan to return for our first anniversary. Any specific questions please feel free to email me personally.

We are going to AC for honeymoon in September. We are trying to decide whether it is worth the extra money to get the upgraded room. Has anyone stayed in a standard room? From most of the postings I've read they upgrade you automatically if there is availablity. Should I risk this for a honeymoon?

All of the rooms are very nice. Our flight home was a late flight and they moved us to 1A, a standard room. It was very pretty but was lower down the mountain so not quite as private. 14B is spectacular but, again, not as private. Everyone that we registered in with was upgraded. The hotel will arrange all of your trips and there are a number of complimentary trips, the tour of Anse Mamin and a walk to Soufriere with Meno on Saturday morning (great trip). We were going to go to Dasheene but the credit is only 60EC and we just did not want to go there and see nothing in the dark. My only recommendation would be to take hiking boots if you plan to go anywhere. Perfect honeymoon spot.
