July/August -Bermuda/Barbados/BVI/Cancun???

My husband and I and our two teenage daughters are planning on a week in the Caribbean this summer. Which location would offer the best trip (with all ages in mind) and the best bargain for a tight budget (air/hotel/food/sightseeing)? We looking for nice beaches, snorkeling, things to do day and night, safety, good weather with a minimum of bugs. Definitely NOT an all-inclusive package, preferably someplace with kitchen or at least frig. & microwave in room. Please respond. Any and all information is appreciated. Thanks!

One big reason that I would suggest my favorite island - Barbados - is that at that time of year you can be very happy that you are south of the typical hurricane belt. All of the other places share that risk. But besides that, Barbados has it all - great beaches, friendly people, plenty to see and do (no casinos), and I have always felt safe there - traveled many times in my 20's, often alone, and I never had any problems. From what I hear Bermuda is really pretty, more pristine than Barbados, and very safe also. But it, and BVI are more expensive than Barbados. Cancun, well, I think it's too commercial, and I have a single female friend who went there and had some problems, but I guess that can happen just about any where. If you'd like any more information on Barbados, and to see some photos, try www.barbados.com (switch to summer rates - there are many places that offer kitchens), and www.barbadosphotogallery.com to see what it's like.

My husband and I are planning our firtst trip to Bermuda for 3nights/4days, and so far we are thinking of staying at the Sonesta Hotel. I was also
looking into the South Hampton Princess. Does any
one have any recommendations or suggestions?

Thanks,
Nancy

I went to Bermuda for the first time last August and thought it was great. The island is so clean. I can't remember having to deal with bugs, they have great snorkeling at Tobbaco Bay, and they have awesome beaches. I didn't know sand could be pink. I think the best thing about Bermuda is even during peak tourist season the island doen't seem overrrun with people. You can find beaches of the side of the road with no else there. Although food and lodging can be a little expensive, if your truly wanting to get away from it all and not have a hassle on your vacation I think Bermuda is a great choice.

Thanks for the advice. Where did you stay on the island? Can you recommend any budget accommodations that were nice? Also, what airlines did you use? I appreciate any information.
