Jost Van Dyke
I am planning a honeymoon for mid-June and we are considering spending at least part of our time at a tiny resort called Sandcastle on Jost Van Dyke, B.V.I. Based on some of the descriptions we have read, it sounds wonderful, but would like to get a perspective from anyone who has been there.

Also, we would like to spend another 3-4 days on a nearby island. Some choices that we have considered include Tortola, Virgin Gorda (although may be too expensive for our budget), and St. John. Could anyone recommend a nice, but relatively inexpensive (less than $250/night in June) resort on one of those islands?

Finally, what is the best way to go about booking such a vacation? Should one try to find an agent offering a package deal that includes air or piece it together yourself.

Thanks so much,
Todd
Hi Todd!
We spent our honeymoon in Tortola last June. Best time of our lives! We loved our day in Jost, but wouldn't want to spend more than 2 days there, There are a few restaurants and bars ,perfect beach, that's it. We stayed at Long Bay resort- which we loved. It is a 5 minute cab ride to the West end dock.We rented a vehicle, though, and enjoyed the entire island.Look at the rates for summer- they go WAY down Jun 1.Plus, you don't have the cruise ships in summer- which make all the beaches so much nicer. There are some not-as-romantic hotels in Cane Garden Bay which are clean and nice and as good if not better than Jost. You will be close to several bars and restaurants, but it's not Florida! This is a charming, calm, picturesque bay with authentic Island people/food /music.Please feel free tocontact me for more info. You will love the BVIs...it's like stepping back in time 100 yrs and into a dream.

Todd-
Sorry I forgot to finish. i booked the whole thing through Delta online. Saved me 5 % and I got double FF miles. You can also try Expedia or Travelocity online, I suuest flying to St Thomas and taking a ferry to St John or Tortola. You can finf the ferry info online through the tortola or Limin Times website. The airport in Tortola is way out in the east end and pretty far away from most resorts and the connections are sometimes delayed.

Todd,

I haven't seen the rooms at Sandcastle, but I've been to the Soggy Dollar bar there a couple of times. The beach is amazing, and the bar is a lot of fun, in a mellow way. There's decent food, the amazing "painkillers" to drink, and the ring toss game to while away the hours. There's not a whole lot to do but lie in a hammock or on the beach and watch boaters swim ashore. I think that would be fun for a couple of days, but not much more. Tortola and St. John are both close by.

My wife and I will spend our up coming spring break at Sandcastle ( 3rd year ). This a great place to relax, I think you will love it! You might want to check out a BVI forum (http://www.traveltalkonline.com/wwwt.../wwwthreads.pl ) the people there have great advice .
