Jamaica Resort

I was looking into DR but read where the beaches are much nicer in Jamaica, so now am really confused. We have never done an AI and must admit we are not completely sold but am willing to give it a try. This is what we want....Place on beach, good food if an AI which would meen a few restaurants to choose from. Good drinks even if that means paying extra or tipping. WIFI would be a plus. Adult only would also be a plus. Where in Jamaica should we be looking. We want safe location, we are in our 5o's. Also not sold yet on AI so if you can recommend any resort i am good with that also.

The Couples resorts aqre highly recommended. There are several Sandals resorts, but they are not as highly recommended. We have been to many AI resorts throughout Mexico and the Caribbean. We are returning to Jamaica in December and chose the Jewel Dunn's River resort in Ocho Rios. It was formally a Sandals. I have been watching this resort since it exchanged hands last September and it's getting very good reviews. All the resorts I mentioned are adults only. We are bascially in your age range. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor.

The beaches in the DR are gorgeous and from my experience, just as nice as Jamaica.

I'd go to Negril and not stay AI.

Any suggestions then in Negril without AI. That maybe also work. But will we feel safe going out at night to dinner? Would I need to rent a car then?

Try Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios. Small, intimate, private beach.
Great reviews. www.jamaicainn.com and

I've only been to Negril once, that was last November. We stayed at a small hotel on the beach, the Bar-B-Barn. It was ok, no complaints, but would probably stay closer to the center of Seven Mile Beach if we return. Look at Coco La Palm and Idle Awhile. Both looked very nice. There are literally dozens of others as well.

We walked everywhere that was close enough to walk. Took cabs otherwise. Never had any hassles or felt unsafe.

Also, look at splitting your trip between the beach and the Cliffs on the West End. There are some stunning little hotels there, and the views are incredible. We stayed at Banana Shout, we loved it, might be a bit too rustic for some. We did take cabe there at night, simply because the road is too dark and narrow for safe walking.

I can only speak for myself, but yes I felt safe going out at to dinner at night. Don't rent a car in Negril. The driving is wild there. Use taxis to get around (when it's too far to walk).

I also agree with the suggestion above to look at both the beach (7-mile beach) or the Cliffs (out the road above the beach, dramatic cliffs overlooking the sea. On the Cliffs look at Catcha Falling Star, Tensing Pen, Le Mirage. On the beach I like Charela Inn.

With the disclaimer these are not "resorts" in the traditional sense, they are independent Jamaican hotels. There are loads of great restaurants to eat in the area.

All of Negril can be considered a little too rustic for some people's vacation taste. So no idea if it would appeal to you or not. But those who love Negril, really LOVE it.
