Jamaica or St. Lucia
Our honeymoon to Sandals St. Lucia was just cancalled. Our travel agent offered us a trip to Dunns River Sandals in Jamaica. Should we go to the Sandals in Jamaica, or wait and go to Sandals St. Lucia in Feb? Also, is Sandals Negril better than Dunns River? Any input would be great. Thanks!

I've never been to St. Lucia, but went to Sandals Dunn's River last year and loved it. Why was your ST. Lucia trip cancelled? If you can wait maybe you should although the Sandals in Jamaica is quite nice. Depending on who cancelled the trip (sandals, or the airline or who?) can you get a better price or room category if you switch?

Biggest difference between Sandals Negril and Dunn's is going to be the beach. Dunn's is far smaller the Negril and will be choppier. Negril is known for the wonderful beach, calm clear waters and beautiful sunsets. Dunn's does have a much bigger pool. Both have the same great food and service but I just personally prefer Negril. You do get two resort in Ocho Rios however so that might be a plus for you.

I would make sure that if you already paid, you get a much better room category as Sandals St. Lucia is far more expensive then either Negril or Dunn's. Sandals always gived upgrades for this type of thing but you have to ask.

We are getting ready to go to
Sandals St. Lucia over the holidays so I can't provide you any feedback on that yet, but, I can about the Sandals in Jamaica. My favorite of the resorts is Negril if you're going there. They have a beautiful beach that you can walk up for hours and not reach the end (it's 7 miles). Also, the resort is classy, but laid back with great ocean-front rooms. Sandals Dunns River is nice also, but, it's more concrete and glass and not as "tropical" as Negril. The beach isn't anything like Negril's either. But, they do have an awesome pool. My husband and I would get up every morning in Negril and eat breakfast then take a walk up the beach. We would be gone for 3 hours and not even realize it. I've also been to Sandals Montego Bay and Negril is still my favorite (we've went there 3x we like it so much!). Another alternative to consider is Antigua if you can get there. The Sandals there is wonderful!!! In answer to your question though, if you haven't been to Jamaica before, going to either Dunns River or Negril would be good if you didn't want to wait until Feb. The people there are so nice and there's a lot to do and see on the island.

Ok, Ive been to both of them. Negril is our favorite but St. Lucia is our 2nd choice. Both are wonderful resorts. Better beach at Negril nicer pools at St.Lucia. The food was great at both more to choose from in St.Lucia. We were in St.Lucia last Feb and the weather was perfect. We are 4time returnees and will be at one in Feb also. Have been to Dunns River for a day pass it was nice also. Any ?'s feel free to email me.

Hi Michelle. Wow, you have some great resorts to choose from. My wife and I have been very fortunate in the sense that, within the last 2 years, we have stayed for a week or more at each of the three Sandals resorts you have mentioned. We can answer any specific questions you may have, so feel free to e-mail anytime....... Rick

Hi there - (I don't have any suggestions for you, sorry - I'm looking for a few myself) just looked at all the messages and have a few questions myself. My fiance and I are looking for a wonderful honeymoon in mid-June 2002. We are looking into Jamaica, Antigua, etc. We want a nice beach (that's our main priority), all-inclusive... Any suggestions on what's best with around a $5,000 budget? Thanks!

If you want to be pampered and stay at the best resort in Jamaica, look at the Half-Moon Golf and Tennis resot 20 min. outside of Mobay. They also own Jumby Bay in Antigua. First Class resorts and you probably can do the trip on that budget. I have also been to St. Lucia and if it were my honey moon it would be Sandels Halcayon or the Joulisia Hilton outside of Soufrie. By the way I stayed at the Half Moon for my honey moon and then went back two years later. The Half-Moon in Jamacia is one of the finest resorts in the Carribean. One day my wife wanted a milk shake while on the beach and is was not on the menue, but it was served within ten minutes. Look at their web site. 400 acre resort, Sorry if I got carried away.

Thanks,

Todd

My husband and I went to Sandals St. Lucia last December for our honeymoon and we had the time of our lives. We met people who had been to other Sandals, including Jamaica, and they said it didn't compare. Plus my husband has been to a Sandals in Jamaica, albeit 10 years ago, and he much preferred ours. But he went to Ocho Rios and I heard Dunns River was better. Be sure, however, that you go to the golf resort and not the smaller Sandals. We had a few people switch from the smaller to ours because they weren't as happy. Should you need any other info feel free to e-mail me. We have digital pics from the sandals also. Also remember that Jamaica Sandals is less expensive than St. Lucia. Hope I helped. Leslee Quick
