Jamaica Hurricane

Good Morning,
I heard from somebody that Jamaica was about to be hit by a hurricane or it just got hit. Is this true? Any damage? If Jamaica took a hit now would it be OK to go there on 11/1 to 11/12?
On another note...Is it warm enough to swim during the above period?
Thanks...
Steve

The storm which was just off Kingston veered away and moved towards the Caymen Islands. It also veered away from them and is now headed to landfall on the coast of Mexico. So Jamaica is OK. Yes you can swim there in November. It will be warm.

Latest follow-up post-Iris hurricane reports up this am from Treasure Beach (storm passed the South Coast primarily).High winds, heavy rains (which are welcome this time of year), fishermen/fishing boats ok,a few older houses with roofs gone on South Coast of Jamaica but nothing major that will affect a holiday at all.

Tiv, Rockhouse says they will reopen Nov 17th. Blue Cave Castle had 7 rooms ruined but they are already redone and reopened. Lots of beach erosion and seaweed washed up which is being quickly buried in the sand. SOme beach bars and such are now rebuilding. Pickled Parrot should reopen soon. Samsara took some big damage also.

Margueritaville is already open i believe,Pier One suffered heavy damage and may be closed ofr a bit.

I'm hearing from some that the Gleaner may have exaggerated slightly.

I did hear that 3-4 of the big party catamarans are gone.

None of this was diue to the hurricane hitting JA, it just made the sea rough and the tide high and sent some big waves crashing into things.
<BR Liz

Me again. I just checked out The Gleaner online and there's a report from Tuesday saying that 7 mile beach was pretty wrecked from Hurricane Michelle and that there's barely any beach left due to the high surf. I called the people at Sandals corporate and Sandals Negril, and asked them about the current conditions - they seemed very reluctant to provide any information other than the beach is fine, and it's being cleaned up. So what's going on? If anyone can provide any further information, it would be much appreciated.

As of Tuesday,South Coast: The faithful yardie posse spent 3 days getting up all the rockstone and turtlegrass, with the beach somewhere under mounds of latter. Tuesday was the first beautiful sunset on island/sun out, normalcy returns. Waterfront jetties generally lost planking;some seawall foundations undermined, but road passable all the way from Treasure Beach to MoBay. Thanks,Liz for update on Negril which the rogue waves hit hard. But, it's Jamaica to swing with the punches and recover --- fast. So anyone headed down:NAH VEX USELF --don't worry, just come and enjoy. Jamaica is still Jamaica
