Jack Tar Village
Anyone been to Jack Tar in St. Kitts lately? We're hoping to return in 2/00 and would like to get some first-hand info since the hurricane blew through! Our travel agent is "gently" suggesting we might want to try the Dominican Republic for a change of pace. Any comments? We prefer an all-inclusive package, golf close by, gambling, pools and/or low-key beaches. Any and all comments will be appreciated. Any other suggestions that would fit our wish list. We've been to Aruba (several times), Cancun, St. Martin, Antiqua, Barbados, Guadaloupe, Paradise Island, Curacao. Help we're running out of islands!!!

Hi Linda.
I've been to the Jack Tar Village in Puerto Plata and I loved it. There is a "most disappointing" thread here where it is mentioned 2X one time by me and the other by someone who was disappointed. I tried to email this person but the email address didn't work? Too bad as I'd like to know when this person went and why they didn't like it. I went two years ago for 2 weeks to Jack Tar Village, Puerto Plata -- they were in the midst of fixing up the hotel as Allegro had just bought them out. I believe the hotel is about 12 years old so it was in need of some fixing up. I see from the Signature brochure that they have renovated - it would be nice to hear from someone who has been before and after the renovations.
Personally I loved it -- great value for your money. There is a golf course in the complex - part of which runs through Jack Tar Village. I like that it is set up with haciendas instead of another high rise hotel. The disco wasn't very wild but we had fun. There is a casino at the hotel. Friends of ours went last year and were very impressed - but I guess it depends on what is important to you. The rooms were basic when I went but immaculate. The food was very good--lots of choice. The entertainment was great and the staff 2nd to none!
I went to Puerto Vallarta last year but am thinking of returning to Puerto Plata this Winter as I preferred Puerto Plata. The Dominican people are great! Jack Tar has a high number of return guests which speaks volumes!
When I talked to guests who had been to St. Kitts they told me it was very nice but a bit quieter than Puerto Plata.
Hope this helps? If you need anything more email me.
