Is the Bahamas safe?

Can I feel completely safe walking along the beach in Nassau, Bahamas at night?

Be more specific on Nassau. Downtown can be a scary scene at night. Paradise Island, however, is safe.

Alicia, there isn't much beach around Nassau, are you staying on Cable Beach or Paradise Island.

We walked Cable Beach at night and felt comfortable, but there were alot of people around, and I hate to say it, but Nassau is a big city with a beach, so just be aware of things around you.

The out islands or the "family islands" you can walk the beaches any time of day or night and feel completely safe.

Have a great time on Nassau and enjoy the Bahamas. If you need any more info my address is [email protected]

tweedy
Alicia; Nassau is a large city and isn't completely safe. You may not have heard of two women murdered last year on Cabage Beach. Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham and the Bahamian Government are offering two $100,000 rewards for the killer; one for each victim. Ingraham is also inviting U.S. and British detectives and forensic experts to join in the manhunt, since one of the women(Joanne Clarke, 24, is from Oxfordshire, England and the other body found was a 32-yeaar-old Lori Fogleman of Richmond, Va. They were on a secluded area of Cabbage Beach. Prime Minister Ingraham is paying for the roundtrip flight of all relatives of both slain women. Police patrols on Paradise Island have been beefed up.In fact, a police station subdivision is located right by the Paradise Island bridge on PI. My wive, daughter and I were there July 14-23. We like to hike isolated spots and planned on trekking along Cabbage
Beach. Glad we didn't. Of course, we'd never do it at night, alone. I'd say the
slayings were isolated incidents. Be careful, and have fun. Bob
Bob those murder mysteries were solved very quickly, and the young man has been in custody almost since the discovery of the crime. There is not that much crime on Nassau and the police there are very through.

But yes in ANY city worldwide you have to be aware of your surroundings to be safe.
Tweedy; The point is, Nassau is not as safe as some may think. Regardless of how quick the murderer was captured, the two women were murdered. Also, I would never advise a person or small group to venture around downtown Nassau at night. It is a big city with big city problems, and the cultural and sociological makeup of Nassau is changing due to huge outside monies pouring in from outside sources, like the Atlantis for example. There will be more have and have nots, just like in all other cultures. The have nots will prey on the haves. Bob
