If you needed a getaway.....

for 4-5 days, didn't want to spend a fortune (flying from N.C.)and just wanted to "get away from it all", where would you go? This will be a getaway for a couple of stressed out women in need of a break--not looking for that "once in a lifetime" experience, just R and R! (would like: warm weather, beaches, safety, island beauty) Thanks for your suggestions!

Have you looked into Harbour Island, located in the Bahamas? Sounds like it has everything that you are seeking and is very close to N.C.

Any of the Bahamas Out Islands is probably a good bet for you. Grab a USAir flight out of Charlotte to one of the Florida jumping-off points, and you can be in Eleuthera (including Harbor Island), Abaco, or the Exumas by early afternoon. These islands are laid-back and lovely, and don't have to be very expensive. Just don't go in the deepest of winter -- you may not find things warm enough.

Have been checking out Abaco Islands in the Bahamas. A little off the beaten path, but looks to be well worth it. Try www.go-abacos.com

Have fun.

We are headed to Fernandez Bay Village on Cat Island in the Bahamas in 3 weeks. The island is described as having "a few phones" which sounds perfect to me! (we just want some R& R too) I am bringing books, bathing suit and some t-shirts nothing else... check out fernandezbayvillage.com

For Melissa: Fernandez Bay looks teriffic--the only thing I don't see a description of is the beach--is it nice? Thanks so much everyone!
