How is the Crane?

Has anyone stayed or visited there recently? I've read some postings about construction at the Crane and want to determine how disruptive this is. To quote the The Crane's website, they are offering a 35% rate discount through 12/05 as they "expand the resort to enhance your experience."

Thanks!

...or in other words, to keep you from throwing a fit over the construction noise.

I opted not to go there for lunch during a recent stop at the island as the restaurants are underconstruction too.

A resort under construction is not my idea of a quiet romantic getaway...

The Crane is as about as you can get on Barbados. It is on a fairly rough water beach, and remote from most sightseeing, restaurants, calm water beaches, Stay on the caln West Coast and be close to everything. There is nothing as awful on a vacation as construction noise.

We LOVED it! We were sorry we only had one day.

We got hooked up with a great guy who took us all over the island for a very reasonable fee.

Did the caves, rum distillery, downtown for shopping, Boatyard, Weiser's - the works.

Hope to get back there sometime. Really enjoyed it.

Hi,
just returned from spending 3 nights at The Crane before a trip to Mustique.
It was a toss up between Little Arches or The Crane, next time Litle Arches.
Although The Crane has excellent accomodation (took advantage of the discount for a residence suite ) the a/ c was not working. We opened all the louvres for a breeze but to no avail, finally we manged to find 2 fans from the housekeeper.

We wanted somewhere kinda quiet, oops....... it wasnt so much the construction which we hardly heard, it was the constant chatter of other guests either celebrating weddings, playing with their kids and the beach was packed with loungers, so close together it was uncomfortable.
The pictures of the beach on their website show no loungers .The beach is split by loungers provided by the Crane and others to rent. They really do not want you to move them nearer the water.
If this is off season I would hate to be there in the high season.
The pool was packed, if they continue with the planned accomodation they will have to build more recreation facilities.
The food was actually very good and the asian rest was to open very soon but the chef had arrived and the food was available.
In the evening service was very slow between courses maybe 30 - 45mins.We decided to order room service one night and it was del withing 15 mins ... go figure. We noticed most mornings lots of trays outside the rooms. i think everyone was catching on !
The highlight of the trip to Barbados was a trip up the east coast to Bathsheba and lunch at the Roundhouse with a stop at Bottom Bay !
