Honeymoon in Virgin Islands or Bora Bora/ Moorea?
Hi everyone!
I asked this on the pacific site and everyone said French Polynesian islands are the best but too expensive for a honeymoon. I'm not really interested in cost here, unless you think newlyweds can't have a good time in FP without getting the most expensive places there. Please tell me what you think. Travel time is May, lush islands, beauty, and romance a must, of course. And if you really think FP is too expensive, let me know how much it cost to go there for about 10 days.
Thanks everyone!

In response to your message, there is a package with a tour company called "Islands in the Sun". They have 2 really interesting packages for 10 days. One is called "Tahitian Showcase" that includes Air fare from Los Angeles via AOM, 4 nights Moorea, 4 nights Bora Bora, 2 nights Tahiti, room tax, breakfasts 4 on Moorea, 4 on Bora Bora, 1 on Tahiti. 1 Lunch on Tahiti, 3 Dinners on Moorea, 4 on Bora Bora, 2 on Tahiti, Evening Tiki Village show on Moorea, Snorkeling trip on Moorea, circle island tour of Moorea, shark feeding excursion on Bora Bora, Full day circle island tour of Tahiti, Inter-island transport by air, all transfers and baggage handling, meeting service, including flower lei on arrival and shell lei on departure. The price ranges from $2825 per person based on double occupancy to $3595 per person. Prices are subject to change. The other package is called "Pearls of the Sea" and it ranges from $2695 per person to $3375 per person. Prices subject to change. But I hope that this helps you get a ball-park idea. As far as a good package for 10 days/9 nights in St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands with airfare from Miami on American Airlines, round trip transfers from the airport to the hotel, 9 nights at the Renaissance Grand Beach Resort in an island view, room tax included is $1366.30 per person. The Ritz Carlton St. Thomas with a great bay room is $3818.30 per person. Prices vary depending on room type and hotel. Prices subject to change. Please e-mail me if you have any questions. Thank you.

Laurie -

I cannot give you any information on Bora Bora, but St. John in the USVI is a wonderfully romantic honeymoon spot. I would not recommend St. Thomas - much too commercialized. St. John is a ferry ride (20 min.) away and its lush beaches are unmatched. You can rent a condo or a wonderful villa with private pool, hot tub and every amenity you could possibly want, especially in May because it is considered "out of season." Our first trip to St. John was 6 years ago and since then we only missed one November to go to The Caymans and didn't care for them all that much. Anyway, our first villa was a 5 bedroom 5-1/2 bath (5500 sq. ft.) with a pool cost us about $1800 for the week. In season is twice as much, but still a bargain. There are tons of real estate brokers if you want to check out the various websites and do a search. If you need more specifics, I will be happy to tell you some of the realtors we have utilized. When you rent a villa in St. John, you are charged according to the number of individuals - not the size of the home. Anyway, the island's beaches and snorkeling are wonderful. The little town of Cruz Bay has an interesting mix of restaurants, shops and wonderful little bars. There is great hiking on the island (about 75% consists of U.S. Virgin Islands National Park) as designated by Laurence Rockefeller who owned the island. It's a much shorter trip wherever your coming from for 10 days. I have friends who have gone to FP and tell me you need a minimum of two weeks there. St. John has everything we need for a week of relaxation - not to mention all the islands surrounding it that make for great day trips, i.e., Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, Tortola, to name a few.

Hope this helps you.
If cost & time are not an issue, without a doubt choose Bora Bora. Bora Bora, Moorea and Rangiroa are the most beautiful place in the world.

These islands are pristine pieces of heaven. I can't imagine a lovelier or more romantic way to begin your married life together.

May you have many happy years.

By all means do Bora Bora or Moorea. We have been all over the Caribbean and it is nice but French Polynesia is a fantasy come true. The water is like none I've ever seen. We have been to Club Med on Moorea and had a good time, but if I was on a Honeymoon, I would probably opt for a over the water bungelow at the Sheraton on Moorea (which is brand new) or the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort. The last time we cruised on a 10 day with Renissance, and really loved it. We spent almost 2 days in each port, which was plenty to get the flavor of each island. Have a wonderful honeymoon.
