Honeymoon in August.....Where???

My fiance and I are going on our honeymoon early August. We are debating Bermuda or the Carabbeans. Important factors are: Weather(hurricane season or not), price (all inclusive in Carabbeans like Sandals 5 star vs $$$$ 5 stars in Bermuda), which is the nicest island (ext-Lucia vs others) and relaxing honeymoon atmosphere for mid 20s couple. Other ideas also welcomed (Hawaii?)
Thanks
August is a very risky time to be travelling to the Caribbean. There is a chance you could be rained out the entire trip. Stick with Bermuda. Bermuda is a GREAT place to honeymoon and has better weather in August (although hot as hell)! Very beautiful and romantic.

Sandals resorts are not even top-notch resorts in the Caribbean. Although if you like drinking a lot and hanging with other young couples, maybe Sandals will work for you. Just make sure you get that hurricane guarantee!

St. Lucia is very pretty, but nothing like Bermuda or HI.

Sandals is not what they advertise. We had a horrible experience and would never go back to any Sandals Resort...Unfortunately, it was our Honeymoon....Find another resort..

If you're worried about a hurricane, choose Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao or Grenada. ABC are out of the hurricane belt and Grenada hasn't had a hurricane in like 30+ years.

We went to Grenada for our Honeymoon last August/Sept. We were concerned about Hurricanes, and chose Grenada because of it being so far south. We lucked out and only had one whole day of rain, but it did rain a little bit each day. We loved Grenada, and had a great time, but if you want to avoid rain, I would stick with Aruba, Bonaire or maybe Barbados. I don't know much about Bermuda. Also, if you don't mind the flight (and you won't get the same off season rates) Hawaii is a better bet weather wise. If you have any Grenada ?'s feel free to e-mail me.

Have been going to Bermuda for one week in late August for the last six years. In all that time we have only lost one full day to rain. Storms to the south do churn up the water and can affect snorkeling.

Bermuda has only on all inclusive resort, Harmony Club, and it is not on the water. Suggest you check out small hotels The Reefs, Pompano Beach or Cambridge Beaches. Get the meal pan at one of these places and buy some beer/wine in a local store and keep it in your in-room fridge. All are on nice beaches. We stay at The Reefs and think it has the best location. If you want it, there is lots to do in Bermuda and the people are great. Despite some advice we have heard, we do rent the motor scooters and would not enjoy the place nearly as much if we couldn't. Congrats and good luck!

Stephanie, I'd go to Hawaii. We honeymooned there in August 97, and last Augusdt we spent our first anniversary on St Thomas and St John. I hated the Carribean compared to Hawaii, and I would have been very sad had that been our honeymoon. It was unbelievably HOT - we live in Texas, and we couldn't get over how bad the weather in the Caribbean was. The humidity was unbearable - I was only happy in the water or in airconidtiioning. Hawaii was the complete opposite, and thats why we were so astounded over how hot US VI was.

I like St John a lot - we stayed at Caneel Bay, but there was no air conditioning and we couldn't sleep at night. I'd consider going back there... in December when the heat shouldn't be a problem. Caneel has a dress code for dinner, and I thought my husband would DIE in his suit.

If price is a consideration, Hawaii would only be out of your range for airfare, assuming you live on the wast coast. I found hotels and food and car rentals to be comparable. Feel free to email me for more comments. I haven't been anywhere else in teh Caribbean, so I can't comment. When we were planning our trip, we looked at St Lucia. The main reason we didn't pick it was that air travel between Texas and there was ridiculous - five hours longer than to St Thomas.
