Just found out that I'm going to become a grandmother and don't want to be called grandma, nothing against it! Any ideas? Also wondering, does anyone know the caribbean name for grandma or grandmother? Thanks!

I live here. We call aunts Aunty, Aunt, Tanty or Tan, also Nene (pronounced Neh-Nee).


Grandmothers are Nana or Mama, Granny or Grandma.

My mother is called Aimee (ah mee)by the kids. Its origins are french.

There's no such thing as Caribbean language. Maybe you're thinking Creole? The word is Grann... but then some of the islands have different types of Creole. For example the Creole in Haiti is a bit different than the Creole in St. Lucia.. so not sure that it would be the exact same word.

I can't begin to write the word phonetically but it's not pronounce the way I know you'll pronounce it if English is your language.
