Great Resort + Night Life and Excitement

I am taking a vacation with my family, three brothers between 21-23 and two parents. We are taking a week vacation in January 09' and I was hoping someone might have a suggestion for island(s) and resort(s) that would meet all our needs for day and night activities. Ideally lots of outdoor activities during the day and a decent night life so there is some excitement after the sun sets!
Thanks!

hi welcome to fodors. fodorites can be more helpful if you tell us more specifically what activities the bros and you enjoy? various islands offer scuba/snorkeling, golf, tennis, hiking, zip-lines, volcano tours, etc. some islands have lots of party boat excursions. do you want to a casino? where you are coming from and what is your tolerance for a long day of travel. and your budget in order to make specific resort suggestions. are you interested in all-inclusives? are you willing to rent a car?

Sorry I didn't mean to be so vague. So all the outdoor activies you listed are ideal. Honestly, just a place where there is so much to do like hiking, kayaking, boat tours, snorkeling, sports activities etc. to keep busy. Party boats and casino's are great. I've been to Cancun and hated everything about it. Very dirty and the resorts were not private enough from what I experienced. Beach bars with local flavor are what I had in mind. We're coming from Jacksonville, Florida and there is not a budget for this trip. All inclusive is most desired but not a requirement by any means. We are willing to rent a car, but would rather not just because I doubt we'd use it very often. Thanks!!

Hello,
Although there is no casino, I would recommend either Jamaica or Grand Cayman. I loved both (and I am a casino lover also). Jamaica, we stayed in Negril, it has the local, authentic Jamaican charm, while being beautiful and relaxing and still having tons to do. DEFINITELY google Rick's Cafe in Negril, by far the best part. You can spend every night here and not get sick of it. It's beautiful, affordable, the food's great, and the music is incredible.
Cayman has more of the all-day activities that you are seeking. Tons of watersports here!!!! However, I feel that Cayman lacks the "Caribbean flavor" that you seek because it's more Americanized. I loved Negril, and if I go back will stay on the cliffs again to be close to Rick's! Samsara is a great place to stay, or Xtabi, both near Rockhouse Hotel. Good luck!

Almond Resorts in Barbados have lots of activities, both day and night, and are located on a nice beach. Plus the island has lots to do including a zip line, adventure tours, hiking and biking, countless water activities and of course, a vibrant nightlife. There is also an Almond on St Lucia, another island with lots to do and see.
