Grand Cayman v. St Thomas

GC is a safe, clean designation for families. St. Thomas is pretty but questionable. Seven mile beach is beautiful(!), very clean, has plenty of trees for shade and is not crowded. GC is not cheap but you certainly don't have to spend a fortune to have a nice time. Post back if you want a brief overview.

St. Thomas "questionable?" NOT! Actually Sapphire has just done a redo of the units and has one of the prettiest beaches on STT! Kids stay and eat free and is a "family destination." There are many options for dining on STT as the SeaGrape at Sapphire leaves much to be desired! I can't compare it to the Cayman's as I have never been but I have avoided them because of the reports of high rises elbow to elbow with timeshares! - and have been told by many that it is not for me! St. Thomas features coves and beaches for the most part and easy accessability to St. John and the Nat'l Park beaches - which are wonderful (only 15 minutes away by ferry) and easy access for trips to the BVI!

Both are great destinations. If you only want to walk the beach and stay close to your condo, Grand Cayman is the choice (Recommend The Coralstone Club). GC is a flat island, with basically one beach - 7 mile beach; has great diving and snorkeling, but not much variety otherwise. If you want to explore, go to STT. Recommend day sail or chartered excursions to St John, Tortola and Virgin Gorda. The Virgin Islands are more mountainous, with many diverse sights and beaches. If you avoid walking around the island after dark, and don't go to deserted beaches alone, you should have no problems on STT.
