Golfing at Veradero

My wife and I and our 16 year old son will be at the Super Club Veradero Breezes all-inclusive the week of March 13th/00. We plan to play the new golf course at Veradero on the Dupont estate. Has anyone played it. Any comments or observations. Best time to play? We think we'll probably rent carts then use caddies. Any suggestions? Thanks Steve

Hi Steve, well I have not played it but have seen it. The course is on the ocean and when we were there last April there was a lot of brown grass from the heat. It is the only one around. The club house is small and I don't remember seeing electric carts around. you should be able to play anytime, because I did not see anyone on the course during the day. Have fun and post your score. Super Club Varadero is beautiful, you will like it. Remember to pack and carry toilet paper with you.

Hi Larry:
Thanks for the response & advice. I'll let you know how we do. Golf Digest had a recent article on golf in Cuba and a picture of the course. Hopefully it's greener than when you saw it and it's as good as the picture in Golf Digest.

Hi again Steve, it seems they have carts for $25 US, caddy 10 US, 18 holes for 60 US and club rentals for 10 US. If you are interested, I found this listed at or something like that. The golf stuff was under Melia Los Americana Golf Resort.
Hit one for me while you are there.

Just got back from Cuba - Superclub Puntarena. Met some guys at the buffet restaurant. They had just played golf and the guy told me that 7 of their greens were being repaired... So you had to play on 11 real greens and 7 temporary greens. He did not enjoy it.!!

The golf turned out to be great. Nice course about 6300 yards from the blues and 5900 from the whites. You're right there were temporary greens but they are building new ones. They had rain the week before we arrived so it all the fairways and greens were pretty green. We bought a package of 5 green fees through our hotel Superclub Breezes for $175 cdn. so at $35.00 a round that was pretty good. Golf carts were $22.00 U.S. Tee times were no problem since the course wasn't that busy. Challenging course, plays longer than it is, but relatively flat except for the last holes on the front and back nine that return to the club house. There is a driving range, only $2.00 a bucket of balls. The proshop is devoid of equipment (except some Wilson and Dunlop clubs, but no caps or shirts etc., a product of no U.S. imports. We really enjoyed our resort, Cuban people and the golf and plan to return. Highly recommend it to all.
Cheers, Steve
