Getting married in the Carribean

My fiance and I are interested in getting married on an island in the carribean. We are in the very intial stages of planning and looking at either August 1999 or Dec. 1999. We will take any suggestions or advice. You can be as specific or general as you like. Personal stories would be great too!

Thanks!!!

Any of the Sandals or SuperClubs will arrange a wedding for free. I've seen weddings at both resorts and they have looked lovely. I have also witnessed a wedding at Blue Bay Village in Cancun. Most any all-inclusive resort will make the arrangements but some islands have longer waiting periods and some will let you get married within a day or two of arriving. I would check out Sandals first, because they have properties on several islands. SuperClubs is good but their major presence is Jamaica - which is not a problem if that's where you want to go. Both Sandals and SuperClubs have websites where you might get more info - www.Sandals.com and www.SuperClubs.com
Becky, Congrats to you both! I'm getting married in April 1999 at Sandals Dunn's River in Jamaica. So far the preparations have been very easy. Feel free to email me with any questions.

Christine

Congratulations! My husband and I were married on the island of St. Kitts in June of this year, and wouldn't have done it any other way. No matter where you decide to get married in the caribbean, most places are more than happy to take care of all the details - you just show up with your dress and groom! We were married at Ottley's Plantation Inn and it was gorgeous!!! If you would like more info, please let me know.
My wife and I were married at St. John, USVI. Both of our parents went along, we rented Lyons Pride (villa) from Catered To. It was the best trip of our lives! It was very private and the beaches were great. Would love to go back...need a witness?

Becky, be sure to check carefully as each island has it's own requirements. There are a couple, Aruba is one of them, that you can't even get married at all. You can renew vows, but not have the actual marriage ceremony.

My husband and I got married in the Bahamas (Royal Bahamian - Sandals) it was absolutely wonderful. You basically meet with the wedding coordinator and she arranges everything for you. I just got back about 3 weeks ago. We got married on the beach under a beautiful gazebo and then they take pictures of the two of you all over the property. After that the two of you have a small wedding cake with champagne and appetizers. The pictures came out lovely and we were very pleased. I would definitely recommend you getting married at one of the Sandals properties.

My now husband and I were married on October 22nd of this year in St. Lucia. We were married right on the beach under a flower-decorated gazebo at sunset. I wouldn't recommend any other way! It was simply beautiful. You don't take care of many of the preparations until you arrive, which takes alot of stress off of the whole wedding. We stayed in St. Lucia for a week and then flew to Barbados for an additional 4 days. Both islands were great. St. Lucia was our favorite. I guess we will always be partial to that island because of the wedding. Most islands require a residency period. St. Lucia's was two business days prior. Check that before you choose an island. Most hotels provide wedding packages which make things economical too. I could go on forever. If you want additional information or have any particular questions, please email me directly. Good luck!!

My husband and I were married 13 years ago at a resort called Eden II in OchoRios, Jamaica and it was very romantic and the best thing we ever did. We were able to concentrate on our committment and not worry about the big show that you get involved in if you have a traditional wedding. (That resort was wiped out by a hurricane some years ago) At the time, it was arranged by the hotel for $150.00 which included the license, ceremony, flowers, cake and pictures. Our hotel was all inclusive so our reception was with 150+ guests there. The hotel manager and recreation director were our witnesses. Call your hotel for their packages. I was a travel agent so I know this is a very common practice. You won't regret it for a minute and you put the money you save towards something practical to start your new life. Best Wishes!!
