Freeport is main city, but covers allot of area, Port Lucaya several miles away is the last area with shops, stores,places to eat and activities, good and bad areas in Freeport do your home work on resort read reviews some good some bad,

Agree with Blamona. Grand Bahama Island seems to get slammed a bit from some quarters, but I quite enjoyed myself there, stayed at a B&B near Port Lucaya Marketplace. Beautiful turquoise water, biking (which I don't feel safe doing on some islands/locales, I did feel safe doing here, with a bike path on Midshipman Road), tranquil beaches, decent places to eat around the Port Lucaya Marketplace (some amazing conch salads and soups), terrific professionals at UNEXSO for Scuba diving, I had a great trip! Check out Garden of the Groves and Gold Rock Beach if you go. Here's my trip report from a few years ago...some of it will be outdated, but it might give some ideas.
