Four Caribbean Nights...
My husband and I will be celebrating our 7 yr anniversary Oct.2. We would like to get away to the Caribbean Sept 29-Oct 3rd. Niether of us have been anywhere in the Caribbean and trying to explore our options for best places to visit this time of year. We wanted the Bahamas but this falls in the heart of the hurricane season.. We only have 4 nights, so would prefer a place easy to get to (from Atlanta, GA), with reasonable travel times (as the Bahamas would be) so we can maximize our vacation. I will be 5 months pregnant at that time...our preferences would be: beautiful beaches/waters, warm temps, not too crowded, mild activites. We are not divers but would possibly snorkel. We just want a relaxing beach trip. I have been wanting to get to Anguilla, but from what I understand much of the Island is "closed" Sept and Oct due to weather. Other than Aruba (although we're not opposed to that), anywhere else you can recommend? We greatly appreciate your suggestions, as we are only educated on the Caribbean as far as the internet!
Many thanks on advance...

Jamaica is a very easy nonstop flight from Atlanta. With only four nights, I would recommend staying in Negril, which is a 90 minute drive from the airport. Check out www.negril.com for info about the area. If you like smaller, intimate hotels check out Idle Awhile (www.idleawhile.com) which is very reasonably priced. It's right on the beach in what many people consider the best section of beach.
If you wouldn't mind staying on the Cliffs (it's water front, but not beach front, but only a short taxi ride away from the beach), check out the hip Rock House (www.rockhousehotel.com).
The Caves is another hip spot on the Cliffs, but it's an all-inclusive. Much of the price of AIs is based on alcohol consumption, and I assume you won't be doing any heavy drinking, but you might find it appealing nonetheless. I think the website is www.islandoutposts.com for The Caves.
Congrats on your anniversary and your pregnancy!

i do not know much about hurricaine season but have read on this board that the ABC islands (aruba, bonaire, and curacao) are usually better bets during hurricaine season. i believe they are further south though. i will say that i just got back from st john last month and had a glorious time at caneel bay resort. my husband and i went for our six year anniversary and my 30th birthday. not sure how st john holds up during hurricaine season though. there are many experts on this board who can help out.
good luck on your trip and congratulations on your anniversary and pregnancy.

Bermuda is easy to get to and a beautiful relaxing island. I would hop over to Bermuda and get pampered. It can be a hurricane anywhere in the Caribbean at that time. We went to Bermuda a couple of years ago in Oct and the weather was beautiful and the ocean temps warm. Aruba is a safer bet, but further away.
Bermuda is much nicer than the Bahamas(my opinion of course).

A quick look at the map would indicate that from ATL the ABC islands are a long way further than (say) Cayman, Jamaica or Bahamas.... and that really matters for a 4 day trip.
Everyone seems to go on and on about Hurricane season, but just book somewhere, take out travel insurance, and if the weather turns ugly that week, change to somewhere else
