Fond Memories, Favorite Places
How about sharing some fond memories of your trip to Puerto Rico? I'm sure many of you out there have something to offer about a great place to stay or visit, a lovely beach, fabulous restaurant, scenic drive, interesting sights, etc. Would love to hear from you!

Have been to PR twice. First time we stayed in Isla Verde. It was too "city" for my tastes but was great to be able to go swimming in April! Second time, we flew over to the island of Culebra, which is part of PR. it's about halfway between PR mainland and St. Thomas. Have many fond memories of Culebra, although it's not for everyone -- kind of primitive -- but we loved it. Accomodations are limited but you might find something you like. Flamenco Beach was lovely and the snorkeling off the southern part of Culebra (near Melones Beach) was awesome. Loved the ambiance of this island -- definitely not commercial -- there is one ATM on the island, no chain hotels or restaurants, people are friendly and it was fun meeting the folks who stopped by the island on yachts to pick u supplies. Loved the Dinghy Dock and Mamacita's restaurants. Hope this helps!

Loved hearing about Culebra! Could a visit to there be easily done as a day trip - maybe a boat over and back, spending a day on the beach? Thanks for the info, CJ. Would really like to hear more fond memories and favorite places from other visitors to PR.

In response to the question about Culebra. it depends upon where you are staying on PR, but probably no, not a one-day trip. Check this out on a map. You need to get to Fajardo and take the ferry (cheap alternative) and then I would recommend staying someplace overnight and taking the ferry back or (2) -- you can get on a small (like 9-passenger) plane right out of San Juan airport and be there in 30 minutes. You'd have to check and see how late they fly back to PR from Culebra -- that might be doable on one day but it's more expensive than the ferry. I think I'd still opt for two days, if you can. I don't think you'd regret it. You can find fairly decent accomodations right in Culebra main little village and take a mini-bus to Flemenco for the day. The cost of the bus is only about $3 pp, one way.<BR>
