Flying between MoBay and Negril

Penney, we flew between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios last April - like you, having done the drive to Ocho Rios on the bus a number of times, we wanted to avoid the bus. We used Tim Air, which is a charter service, and were very pleased with it. It was a little pricey (I think it was around $240 per person one way), lots of people say they don't think it is worth it, but it was well worth it to us just for the experience. The view of the coastline is lovely, and you can see all of the resorts along the north coast between MoBay and Ochie. We were in a teeny 4 seater plane, and I was very nervous about it as I do not like to fly at the best of times, but the flight was very smooth and I actually relaxed and enjoyed myself. The flight was quick and easy, we walked out of customs at MoBay airport, Tim Air rep was waiting for us and immediately whisked us in a small van to the charter terminal, we checked in, and just had enough time for a quick washroom break before we were on our way in our own little plane. Total flight time was approximately 25 - 30 minutes, and we were at the resort, checked in, and lying on the beach an hour and a half before the bus we would have been on arrived at the resort.

Tim Air's website is www.timair.com. We booked over the Internet - there is a small discount for doing so. Oh, and pay in cash when you check in - there is a surcharge added if you charge to your credit card.

Thanks, traveler, for all the info. It is much appreciated.

That is a pretty step price just to get there quicker but like you feel it is worth it. Now the problem would be to get my husband and a small place.

Have you heard anything about Air JAmaica doing the suttle flight? Their prices seem to be much lower.

Yes, I have heard of Air Jamaica Express doing a shuttle flight, though I have no first hand experience with it. The difference as I understand it is that AJ Express is a scheduled service, so if your flight arrival time to MoBay does not coordinate with the time of the scheduled AJ Express flight you will wind up wasting time hanging around at the airport. I have heard of one couple who wound up getting to the resort later than the other people on their flight who took the bus. The times may or may not work for you - take a look at airjamaica.com/express.asp and check the flight schedule. Tim Air does not use scheduled flights, they just arrange the flight for whatever time you want to take it (during day light hours only, though).
