Flight to St. Johns
My husband and I would like to rent a villa in St. Johns for a week in the spring but can't find a flight. We live in Toronto and would prefer to fly out of YYZ but are very willing to drive to Buffalo NY to depart. Can anyone tell me which airlines fly to USVI and also what the airport code is for St. Johns??

Hi Gina-Thank goodness St. John does not have an airport. The island is very easy to access-Fly into St. Thomas and the only choice is by ferry either out of Charlotte Amalie or REd Hook. The ferries do run frequently, I know there is a web site-I will get back to you if no one else has that info.

To get to St John (no "s") if you are headed to the USVI, you fly into St. Thomas (STT) and then transfer by ferry from STT to STJ. Not sure who flys from your area but you may want to check AA, Delta, USAir as those are the ones that I am familiar with that fly into STT.

Continental and United also fly into STT. To see ferry info about ferries from St. Thomas to St. John go to the following address: http://www.st-thomas.com/week/ then scroll down and click on Inter-Island Ferry Schedules.

Just got back from St. John. We flew into St. Thomas and took Red Hook ferry to St. John and Charlotte back. To get to the Red Hook ferry you will take about a 30 minute taxi ride in a van. If crazy driving scares you I recommend the Charlotte ferry!! Taxi to Red Hook cost $16 for two people. The ferry ride is about $3 and takes 20 minutes. It brings you to Cruz Bay and the people you rent the villa from will likely pick you up at the dock. On the way back we took the Charlotte ($7 each)ferry and got to see more of St. Thomas and the surrounding islands. It takes about 45 minutes and the boat has seating in the bow. The taxi ride to the airport is much shorted (can't remember the price). Either way, the trip is definetly worth it. St. John is a beautiful island. I would rent a car and explore!

Thanks everyone for your info. The people on this forum are always so helpful! I am so looking forward to seeing St. John(no s) and love the fact that there is no airport!!!
If there are any Canadians out there who have made the trip, even to St. Thomas, I would appreciate hearing from you!!!

Gina.,
You will find cheaper flights from
YYZ than you will from Buffalo by a couple of hundred dollars. At least that has been our experience. We fly out of Buffalo when possible, but will drive the extra 2 hours to fly out of
TOronto when the prices dictates that.
Last I checked BUF was around 800.00 US
and YYZ was 650.00 range (US). Try maybe a charter flight? It isn't cheap but worth every penny once you get there and see how beautiful it is .
Sherri

Tried to send you an e-mail but your inbox was over quota.

I am Canadian, also from the Toronto area and have been to both islands twice. I did go both times via a cruise but I did alot of research this Spring because we too were going to rent a villa on St John. Ended up doing the cruise instead but did manage to show my husband part of St John the day we were there and he loved it. We may still get back there for a week in the future.

If you have any specific questions, fire away!

Betty
