First time to Dominican

This will be our first time to DR, we have read many stories of safety, weather and sickness. We are going to Fun Tropicale/Fun Royale,Playa Dorado in October. Who's been ? what's it like ? what about hurricanes ? We're going anyway, but is it as great as we think it's oing to be ?

The "oing" is meant to be "going"

DR is similar to a lot of the other Caribbean Islands. It does not have that
tropical flair most of the islands have. However, the beaches are beautiful, the water is warm and clear. The food is typical "island food". Not gourmet.
The people are very friendly and the resorts are very safe. As with any island, if you leave the resort you should know where you are going and get advice from your hotel first.
Drink bottled water only and don't eat anything you don't recognize. You can eat the fruit.
Just go and relax.

Robert and Christine,

You should know at least some basic spanish or bring an English/Spanish dictionary. Not many people in the DR are fluent in English. The staff at the hotels may know a little English but many are not fluent.

Have Fun!

We had a great time in DR and plan to return. Had no problems with safety, weather was great. Don't drink the water. Have fun!

A couple of people said they were staying at Fun Tropicale. What was your experience with that resort. I read a post elsewhere that really panned the resort. Any information woudl be appreciated.
