St. John is safer than most places in the US.
Trying smaller hotels like Garden by the Sea, http://www.gardenbythesea.com, Hillcrest Guest House, St. John, http://www.hillcreststjohn.com and Coconut coast http://www.coconutcoast.com, where the owners are on site.
