Extended Stays in the Carribean
My husband and I are looking at spending 3 to 4 months in the Caribbean winter 2011. We are interested in a studio or small condo in a coastal town. We have been looking at Guadeloupe. My husband can speak French. We would appreciate any comments on possible locations or web sites where such stays can be organized. Thank you.

I don't know much about Guadeloupe, but most islands have places that can be rented months, the Europeans love to ravel that way! Or, you can always call the owner to negociate.
do keep in mind, you'll have better luck with a home or villa, condos will stick to the much more rack rates, that even with free nights thrown in, etc, will still cost you 3-4 times as much as a villa. Most hotels aren't set for longer terms, and charge as such.
Also find out about visas. While I don't know about Guadeloupe, most Caribbean islands usually go for 2 months max--you have to leave for so many days (usually a week) and come back. This is to control someone from living in the island illegally.

I also do not know about Guadeloupe but I know that at the Flamboyant Hotel in Grenada if you stay 2 weeks you get the third week free- they have very good one bedroom apartments that have kitchens. We met a couple who stay at the Flamboyant with other couples for 3 months.
Grenada is a stunning island, safe and friendly!

Check out www.VRBO.com and www.homeaway.com for some great prices on condos in the Caribbean. We have used them with great success many times.
