Escaping the resort?

So the resort is in Punta Cana, but we want to safely travel the island and see its splendors. We have no idea what they are! We enjoy art, music, architecture, dining, as well as natural beauty. Can anyone recommend how to get around and what to do for 2-3 days?

Thanks,

Steve and Judy

You'll have several options to get around:

a) Rent a car and drive yourself.
b) Go on group guided tours (the resort's concierge or Activities Director can arrange them for you).
c) Hire a local taxi driver/guide to take you around.

As for what to do/see google "Things to do, Punta Cana"and you'll find scores of useful links. One of the first few links you find will be for TripAdvisor Punta Cana - that one will bring you to a list of the most popular activities & points of interest with hundreds of reviews.

I've been to the DR twice, but way too long ago to be of much use here. One trip to Santo Domingo & Puerto Plata and the other to Sosua.

I know of two different occasions where friends got a jeep and drove around visiting the island, but have no idea the details of those arrangements.

I hired a taxi for simplicity sakes.

Dr is big! We stayed at punta Cana and it still took more than 2 hours to get to Altis De Chavon and La Romana. Another 2 to Santo Domingo--

Sounds like you really want to check out Danto Domingo-- Columbus is buried there, beautiful colonial city.

Many resorts offer day trips too

We were in Punta Cana years ago and too long to offer any current info. We did take a tour from the resort we were staying at and did the Santo Domingo city tour. It is all day, from early a.m. to late at night It was very interesting. The roads were not good back then so renting a car would not be an option I would try do to. I would hire a taxi, or take the tour as suggested.

Take the suggestions here that are offered. Are you only there for 3 days?

Escaping? The Resort? Perhaps housekeeping can lead you to the underground railway under the cover of darkness? Your posts are disturbing in your negativity of a place you don't know.
