Eleuthera
My wife, daughter and I stayed at Eleuthera long while ago. Stayed at a nice villa owned by a man in NYC and managed by a local businessman named Asa Bethel. I remember Ten Bay Beach, and still view the videos of us snorkeling all by ourselves. Is Ten Bay Beach still as pristine and desolate, or have the land developers gotten to her beauty yet? Please advise, for I would like to revisit Eleuthera if the beach is still pristine and remote. A hotel development on it would definately force me to head south on Bahamas outer islands to escape the developments. Robert

Robert, Eleuthera is still much the same way you remember, not much being done in the way of development. There are alot more homes then you might remember, just north of Govenours Harbour, but it is still the sleepy villages you remember, and the beach is the same. On Eleuthera you can walk for miles on soft pink sand and run into no one else, that to me is paradise.

Asa and Ethel still rent houses in S. Palmetto Point, I have rented from them several times and had a wonderful time.

Glass Window has had a few changes with the stoms over the last few years, the bridge was actually moved a few feet during the last storm, and heavy traffic there means one other car going in the opposite direction.

Windermere, Cotton Club and Club Med are closed, Club Med is supposed to be rennovating and reopening. The Unique Village, Rainbow Inn and The Cove are all places to look into staying.

Have heard varying reports about American Airlines not flying into Govenours Harbour anymore, but N. Eleuthera airport is still very active with US Air, Continental and Bahamas Air. There is also now a Fast Ferry that goes over to Harbour Island and Eleuthera daily.

Hope this helps and if you need any more help let me know.

Tweedy; Thanks for the update. Asa was a very nice man; I'm glad he's still around. The villa we stayed at in Palmetto Point was high on a hill overlooking the ocean. Tree frogs serenaded us every night, although one scared the heck out of me when I attempted a 2am comfort station visit, and it leaped out of the toilet bowl! Lush grounds, water from roof run-off into an underground cistern, empty beaches, gin-colored water, island exploring, making friends with local potcakes who visited us on the porch looking for left-overs, pizza with conch on it, etc. The Glass Window Bridge was closed for a complete renovation back then, and we couldn't make it to northern Eleuthera in our island explorations. Glad to hear it's not over-riden by touristos. Robert

It's Amazing to me how Joan, Tweedy and Ashley are on almost every board about Eleuthera. Nothing personal, I think H.I. and Eleuthera are great.. but it seems to me that they are working the boards to promote Harbour Island as was mentioned about Cartwright's Cottages earlier by Ashley. Seems a bit suspicious to me too Ashley, sorry I would have addressed this to you but you wanted to remain anon.
