ejcrowe would like to request a moment of mourning...

Hi, folks. Well, I'm back from my 17 days in Grenada, though I did check in here periodically to get my fix after I moved to a villa with wifi access.

I'll do my Grenada trip report soon, but because of the nature of the trip I want to put a little more thought into this one and not crank it out right away.

But what I really wanted to mention here, and perhaps just soak up a little sympathy by doing it, is that I left my digital camera and all camera accoutrements on the airplane when I got home late Wednesday night. The camera itself is quite replaceable but I fear that the more than 500 photos on the two memory cards are not. I feel like I've been punched in the gut over the loss. And while I'm not happy to lose pictures of the beaches, sunsets, and the villa, the real losses are all of those pictures from my first week down there that can never be recreated.

Anyway, I'm in temporary mourning. And I'm shamelessly asking here for your sympathy and seeking your comments to make me feel better. My husband is certainly sympathetic, but there's something about all of you, my virtual travel buddies, that I crave right now.

thank you,
emily

Oh Emily I am so very sorry. That is one of my worst fears. I can imagine how you feel.

Maybe there is a chance it will be returned to you? I'm sure you have called the airline.

I would be devastated as well but now you have an excuse to go back to try to re-create some of those memories. Please let us know if a good samaritan turns it in...

I'm so sorry to hear that. I felt sick when I was reading your post. That is my worst fears.... I hope the airline will help you find them.

Oh, I am so very sorry! I also hope that you will get your camera back. I understand that it can be replaced, however; the memories/pictures can't be!
All of our film for last summer's trip to St. Kitts/Nevis/St. Martin was destroyed, so I do understand your loss, frustration and pain.

Good luck!

Oh, how brutal. I'm joining in with everyone else in hoping for a safe return of the camera. I believe there are a lot of good people out there - let's hope one of them turned it in and it's just an airlines slowness factor! Keep calling them!

That is just horrible! My deepest sympathies. You will just have to go back and take the pictures all over again! - Susan

I live in fear of doing just that, losing my pictures. I'm obssessed with pictures, and feel your pain.

Maybe, just maybe, the airlines might have a lost and found?

I trully wish you luck.

Emily,

I feel your pain -- two year ago when we moved to Portland, OR-- the movers lost a box with several pieces of framed art and photos -- I was physically ill over it -- but, of course you have to move on.

Hopefully you have wonderful memories of your trip and nothing can take those away from you. Don't let this unfortunate experience cast a negative light on the travel experience. 17 days in Grenada sounds like a fabulous time.

All the best,

Carol

oh e.j.! How awful.
I do hope you get the camera back.

I must say I have been in somewhat of a similar position. All my digital pics were on the harddrive of my last computer. I kept telling myself that I should back them all up. Of course, being the master procrastinator that I am I never did back them up.

Well, the computer crashed and...yup. Everything. Gone. Every picture I ever took in the past 6 or so years are all gone.

sigh.

I am so sorry for your tragic loss. On any of our trips my camera is like an extra appendage. It never leaves my hand. I love our vacation pictures and obsessed with scrap booking. I would be devastated if I lost my pictures.

Have you contacted the airline? Maybe they have a lost and found and will be able to return it to you. I hope you will be able to recover it.

I hope you get your camera back. If not I hope someone will send you pictures of Grenada. I know this will not replace your pictures, but the gesture might help. I can't wait to read your trip report but take your time. It will be wonderful whenever you submit it.

Heartbreaking! I'm so sorry... I wish you luck with the airline. Hopefully the memories of the trip will outlast the memory of the lost materials.

Hopefully your name is somewhere on the camera bag? A friend left his camera "somewhere" on a tour of Russia and would you believe it was mailed to him about a month later!!

I put our name on the camera bag and our cameras. One never knows if it might do some good.

EJ, what a terrible thing to happen! Can't the airline find it? Keep after them, perhaps it will turn up after all. Praying it will come back to you.

This time around on our trip to Virgin Gorda, I was manic about not losing photos so we brought our laptop and downloaded the cards to the laptop and then burned CD's. Also, we had internet access so I posted my favorites to a Picasa web album for another safeguard.

I also will be very interested in reading about Grenada. We're trying to decide where to go next.

I feel just terrible for you. I agree with everyone else, keep bugging the airlines. I'm not sure what's worse--losing the camera or the pics from an incredible trip! On a hopeful note, I lost something valuable to me once while in Brazil at Iguazu Falls. It managed to make it back to me about 4-5 weeks later. I had my name on it. So don't give up hope!
