Having read all the replies posted I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the island of Grenada.
Grenada has many beautiful villas available for renting to suit families of varying sizes.
The island has many gently sloping beaches and calm waters suitable for snorkeling such as that at Grand Anse.
The island also has many interesting places to visit.
Unlike many tourist destinations there has not been a proliferation of high rise hotel developments. However as already stated there are many villas available to rent and many good restaurants at which to eat.
Should you require any further information,if you have any questions I would be happy to try and answer them. Please do not hesitate to contact me direct.

I don't know where the OP will be traveling from, but one reason I personally didn't list Grenada is because of the time involved getting there. I live in the northeast, and flying from either Hartford or Boston, the earliest I can land in Grenada is 5:00pm. (Admittedly this has more to do with flight schedules than actual flying time, but if the family gets up early that morning, that could be a 12-hour day of travel, which is not so great with little kids.)
FWIW, I didn't notice any major difference in travel time flying from the northeast to Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, Nevis, Jamaica, or Turks & Caicos, even though St. Lucia and Barbados are much farther from the mainland. Perhaps as much as an hour's difference, but in the places I've traveled to thus far (Jamaica and Provo are booked for next year, so I can't say about those), I've always been able to get on the beach somewhere in the 3:00pm hour, which takes into account of going through customs & immigration, getting to the hotel, getting unpacked, and changing clothes. Not bad to be sipping a rum punch by mid to late afternoon, in my book.

ok, interesting, last time I replied to this post to clarify the web site address of The Reef for ejcrowe, that post got pulled....odd, I try hard not to be commercial on this board.
Anyway, my email address is public and it show the correct domain name.
BTW, for ejcrowe and anyone else in range of Boston, just to let you know that Cayman Airways will be starting non-stop service from Boston, adding to the already excellent connections on AA, DL and US on that route.
Finally, I would appreciate an email from the forum administrators if they feel that any post I make may be even vaguely commercial, I do not want to do anything to reduce the credibility of this board.

Sorry about that, Tom. I should've just scrolled up to verify The Reef email address instead of trusting to memory. www.thereef.com.ky
Good to know about new nonstop service from Boston!

Turks and Caicos is excellent for snorkeling off the beach. We saw everythingoff the beach at Coral Gardens that can be seen going out on a boat. The turtles were my favorite! We stayed at Royal West Indies Resort. I highly recommend the property. It would be perfect for the families. The beach is outstanding, the two pools are beautiful and the accommodations were one of the best we've stayed at. The price was right also.
