CuisinArt or Cap Juluca?

I'm planning a trip to Anguilla in the spring. Initially, I booked Cap Juluca but ended up canceling my reservation opting for CuisinArt instead. I'm sure CJ is great but I've picked up on rumblings (on this message board and elsewhere) that the property is in need of renovation/updating. I also heard that the staff morale is low. All this due to an ownership dispute between two opposing buyers. The property is currently up for sale (at least it was a couple weeks ago) and apparently the government recently stepped in. I initially picked CJ because its billing as being laid back and unique. CA may not fit that billing exactly, but atmosphere aside, I don’t want any big surprises to take away from a well needed vacation. That said, I’ve consistently heard great things about CA and do not expect to be disappointed.

Absolutely CuisinArt, and Anguilla is a fabulous island with the BEST beaches in the Caribbean. Try a day trip to one of the neighbouring islands, and be sure to go to Johnnos on a Sunday for lunch. They have the best lobster salad on the planet and live jazz.

I'm sure you will find lots of information on this and other forums on these 2 resorts. I have been to both and they have very different feels. CuisinArt is beautiful, everything is very crisp and new. Service was pretty good. Beach is really beautiful but more windy (when we were there) compared to Cap Juluca. Restaurants were nice, we really liked Santorini and loved the fact they have the Hydroponic Farm at the resort. CuisinArt had more of a family feel. There were children at the pool and many people were at the bar in the evening listening to music etc.
Cap Juluca has a very classic, romantic relaxed feel to it. The rooms were really nice but were not as new as CuisinArt. Service was good when we were there -everyone was nice to us and we didn't have any major issues while here. The beach at CJ is amazing! You do not feel crowded at all on the beach and beach service is great too. Restaurants at CJ are close to the water and really offer a more romantic feel.
You probably can't go wrong at either. We loved Cap Juluca and when we go back will stay there. We just loved the feel there and the beach was amazing.
I don't know if this is any help to you. Guess it depends on what kind of a feel you are looking for. Do you want the room to be absolutely perfect and new? Do you not want to take a chance with the beach being too windy to sit on the beach? Do you want a more classic romantic type of place?
Hopefully, by looking at some different posts and reviews you'll find the best one for you!!

We stayed at CA in November 2005 and can't think of one thing I would complain about. It is more family friendly, but it didn't seem to be bombarded with children. Particularly at that time of year, there was enough space to spread out. Rooms were great, service was superb, dining was wonderful. We never had a problem with excessive wind. The breezes felt nice on the very hot days....but never experienced sand blowing. Enjoy. You really can't go wrong.

As I mentioned in a previous post to you, we have stayed at Cap Juluca and loved it. We also visited Cuisinart for dinner one night. The resort has a much different feel than Cap Juluca. There were many children, we had terrible (and rude) service, and the resort's atmosphere and decor was a bit too cheesey for my taste, as opposed to the classic decor at Cap Juluca. I remember we said to each other that we were so thankful we had picked Cap Juluca!

I stayed at CA and CJ right before Thanksgiving. I think the staff issue is a real one...at CA they seemed much friendlier. The grounds/sailboats/beach also did not seem any where near as well maintained at CJ. I know people on Fodors are more pro-CJ than CA but the opposite is the case on tripadvisor.
I noticed something at CA regarding kids. There weren't any kids at the resort until about 3 days out from Thanksgiving. Then the pool area was full of about 8-12 kids. My bet is that during a holiday or school vacation period the resort will have some kids but if you are there when there aren't school breaks it will be different. It was for me.
Pimm's does get the nod for a romantic dinner but I thought the food was average at both and when there are so many other great restuarants in the island I wouldn't eat too much at the resorts.

I am a HUGE fan of Cuisinart. Hands down much better for me than CJ. The friendliness of the staff is an issue. I find the staff at Cuisi to be much, much nicer. They remember us year after year, and everyone who runs into us in passing ALWAYS greets us. We found the grounds in December to be absolutely breath-taking. Hands down will never stay anywhere else!
