Cuba via US

Hi,

This might be a dumb question, but I have return flights to Los Angeles. I am then flying to Mexico city for 3 nights and then on the Cuba. Coming back I am going via Mexico city (no stop over) and then flying directly to San Francisco.

I am travelling on an Australian passport and am wondering if, when re-entering the states it is ok to say that I went to Cuba or should I only say Mexico city? If the latter, wouldn't it show in my passport?

Thank you

If you have a Cuban stamp in your passport, you should say that you traveled to the country. As a non-U.S. citizen there are no limits on this and it should present no problems unless you are carrying Cuban cigars or rum, which can't be imported into the U.S. It's always best to be honest.

I should have added, if you list Cuba as one of the countries you have visited recently, you will almost certainly be stopped by Customs and have your bags checked, so make sure you have ample time to do this before your flight out of LAX to Australia. It can take some time.

Customs is the first stop into a country, so if you land in LAX before heading to San Fran, then customs is at LAX

Brilliant thanks, that is what I thought!

Just wanted to check as I will be in San Fran before LAX and in LAX for a lay over of two hours before heading back to Sydney.
