Hi Jenna,
The Columbus is one of the most beautiful of all of the Club Meds. The diving is excellent, the reefs are far less damaged than most of the Caribbean because there are less humans touching them and destroying them. This Club was closed since October 2001 due to lack of clientele after Sept 11, so basically no one has been diving the sites since last year.
In December, the water may be starting to get cool, so you might want to bring a wet suit, or you can rent one from the Club. With the package, you will be able to dive twice a day in the morning, plus the night dive, normally on Tuesday. There is also an afternoon dive every day, so if you feel like sleeping in one day, you can still dive in the afternoon.
Make sure you take time to see the island with the Island Tour offered at the Club. The island is small but has lots of history and is very beautiful. The locals are wonderful people, still with the small town feel (which it is.) If you want a private island tour, ask for Quincy or Nat at the reception at Club Med.
If you have any other questions about San Salvador or Columbus Isle, e-mail me directly.

Jenna; Drive over to the Riding Rock Inn and Marina, a small dive op with cool pub overlooking the ocean. Very friendly staff. A good place for a dinner, too. The dives are fantastic, better than anywhere else in the Bahamas(just my opinion). We stayed at the Riding Rock and everyday waved to the huge Club Med dive boat. They go to the same places as RR does: Telephone Pole and Great Cut, for example. One of the divers just got back from diving in Costa Rica, and he said the reefs of San Sal were better. I had a spiritual experience there! While hovering 4 feet above some turtle grass beds, a small turtle (2 feet across shell) began grazing just below me. I slowly descended and began picking grass out of the sand, and offered a slice to it, which it readily took. I kept pulling out turtle grass and it continued eating out of my hand! Then, I heard weird noises, looked up at the bottom of the dive boat off slightly to the left of us, and two pilot whales cruised over me and my feeding partner, about 20 feet over us. I will never forget that one while I was grazing in the turtle grass beds with a turtle; it looked like a cruise ship passing overhead. We rented our own car and toured the island by ourselves. Don't miss the kerosene lighthouse on the north end of San Sal. Robert
