David, my husband and I stayed at Ciboney a few years ago, and we had to be "van'd" down to their beach, which at the time was "ok", the resort is not on the beach but on a hill. I don't recall anything being special about the beach in particular...it they are renovating the their beach, I am sure it will be nice, the hotel itself was very nice.

Just got back from Beaches Grande Sport at Ciboney and had a great time! I will say that the renovation is not complete as yet (they are putting in a rock climbing wall, archery range & mountain bike trail that are still under construction)I think the last restaurant opened a few days before we got there. You do take a shuttle van to the beach, but it's quick and easy and always circling so you don't have to wait. The beach is great, it's narrow but very deep and there is a huge jaccuzzi being put in next to the pool. There is an Italian restaurant right on the beach which has a grill and lunch buffet during the day with really good food. The people at the resort were super nice and friendly, but I have to say that the best part for me was the dining. There were four restaurants plus a grill at the pool and I was very surprised how good the service and food was. It was my first "all inclusive" and didn't have high expectations so I was blown away. There are 2 fancier places to eat and then they have a buffet and an italian. I also found the service very fast (compared to a stay at the Holiday inn in Montego Bay several years ago). I don't know if all the rooms have been renovated-our room was very nice, but it didn't look "brand new"- they are little villas with little pools at each one- very cool if you want to hang near your room. I think if you're going there for all the sports you should wait til everything's ready (all the watersports are available now), but if you want to relax on the beach and have great food, drinks, service then you should go for it.

It's about a 10 minute drive so really close. The resort has a shuttle bus that will take you right there, or I guess you could take a taxi.
