Cayman Sue Need your advice!

Sue,
We are scheduled to go to GC Oct 28th. We haven't had any contact with Robert, and since you have been speaking to people on the north side, do you think we should just postpone til spring. You know the conditions a little better than most. It's only 5 weeks away and we need to figure out what we're going to do. Thanks so much,
Sandy

Sandy,
I'm scheduled to go on Cayman Airways on October 10, and I have no expectation that they will be flying from Chicago by then. Also, we have had pleas from our property mamager to STAY AWAY. I don't expect poewr to be restored to North Side by your trip date. Bottom line: postpone until spring. Which unit at the Retreat do you stay in?

Cayman Sue:
We are also booked to go to GC on December 18, a party of five staying for two weeks in Unit 200 of Northpoint Condos. Should I be actively looking for somewhere else? Am concerned as this is the holiday period and don't know what else would be available if I wait too long. Thank you for any information you can give me.

I'm assuming you booked from Jack Chadwick, the owner. I'd contact him directly. If you wnet through Caymanvacation.com (Don and Linda Martin), I'd contact them, although both families are pretty busy trying to get generattors to our friends. Here is the situation at North Pointe: the roof is off the 3 units to the east; roof still on over 200 and 201. No power, no water. Our unit, 100, is intact. What happens next depends on the insurance adjustor. They may condemn the whole building, and it will be razed and rebuilt. But because of the massive amounts of destruction on the island, there is no way to estimate a timetable. We always go for the month of January ourselves, and we have no idea. Sorry I can't be of much more help. It could actually be MONTHS until we have power.

Thanks Sue:
I really appreciate your response. I have been waiting to hear back from the owner, Jack. The information you gave is helpful and I'll just sit tight. This will be our first trip to the Caymans, and my parents are flying out to meet us there, so it won't be an easy trip to rearrange, if we have to. I really hope the Caymans are getting all the help they need to rebuild.

We either stay in #23,#25 or #27,the large 2 bedroom ground floor units. Units facing north. I've read that all the ground floors are heavily damaged. So I guess we'll just postpone til April. I read on one site that the water level at the Retreat was up to the condos and the beach totally gone. Well thank you for the insight. I guess it was just wishful thinking that we would be able to still go in October. I hope you get to go as soon as possible so you can check out your condo. Thanks again,
Sandy

Sue,

I am glad to see that your condo did so well. We loved staying there last year, beautiful, comfortable place.

I wish you much luck in the rebuild if it comes to that.

I guess we are just going to skip going to Grand Cayman this year, which breaks my heart, and will be back in Spring of 2006. We had hoped to go in April again, but I am thinking with so much rebuilding, and so many if's we'd be better off going elsewhere for our annual family trip.

We will be back, no matter where we go, or no matter where we stay, we've never just 'fit' like we did in Grand Cayman.

Karen

Thanks Karen. Our family is heart-broken over the loss, not because of the money, but because our hearts have belonged to Grand Cayman for more than 30 years. When we are ready, will let you know so you and your family can return.
