Any views on the Caribe Hilton on San Juan?

It is one of the oldest resort hotels on the island. During the 90's it was in a state of decline and messages on various bb's had mixed reviews. It underwent a complete renovation within the past two years and, frankly, have not seen many references to the hotel in recent months.
It is close to the Condado section and there is only one other hotel (NOrmandie) in the area and that place constantly closes and reopens - I don't know its current status. A plus is that the Caribe has a very nice protected beach and it is a short taxi ride to Old San Juan. A cab ride from the airport to the hotel is around $12. The area where the hotel is located is good. If the price were right I would consider this hotel.

Its very small beach, pool area crowed, no casino, looks pretty, best hotel is Westin Rio Mar, beach is great, golfing and tennis on premise beauiful rooms, great service near tourist attraction El Yukon, and fishing town Fajardo, great for couples.
Best Wishes

Only stayed there once compliments of AA. We were given a standard hotel room which wasn't very large (and no complaints there - beat sleeping in the airport!) and the windows didn't open! The "beach" is a smallish area formed by a breakwater that makes a swimming area. The beach was rather crowded with lounge chairs in rows and didn't appeal to me - reminded me of the cuise ships with elbow to elbow chairs all lined up in rows. There were some small bungalows off to the side from the main buidling and they looked interesting. If I were going for a "beach vacation," it would not be my choice.

couldn't agree more with Karen. I stayed there in 2000 and loved the resort but NEVER went to it's beach. I would call this more of a city type vacation as we used the pool and took advantage of the San Juan nightlife which is rockin. It's not a laze around on the beach type resort, nor is San Juan for that matter. I loved it for all the action but don't think you'd like it if you want to just relax. If you want a good beach I recommend Negril in Jamaica!

The Caribe Hilton is located on an exclusive peninsula between Old San Juan and the lively Condado area, just 15 minutes from the airport and convenient to shopping districts, restaurants, museums, casinos, and night entertainment. This hotel has been recently renovated and its 645 stunning guestrooms feature views of either the Atlantic Ocean or landscaped tropical gardens. Fine Dining at their award winning Morton's of Chicago or Palmeras Restaurant. Striking new Olas Spa and Health Club. A world class facility for men and women, spa services range from massage, sauna, and aroma therapy to bodywraps, facials, and more. Try their brand new oceanfront swimming pool or play a game of Tennis on their lighted courts. Or, unwind on a hammock on their secluded beach.
