Caribbean late August, best island
Planning a vacation for the week of August 26th. We are concerned about hurricane season. Are there some islands less likely to have rainy weather other than Aruba?
Does anyone have a crystal ball?

The more southern islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, etc.) are more out of the hurricane belt, but it's honestly a toss up at that time of year. You can also visit the more northern islands (St. Maarten area) and have no ill weather.
In my experience of living in the St. Maarten area for ten years, the real "iffy" time is the first two weeks of September, but we've also had major storms in November, as well as other times of the season. Hurricane season is officially half the year (June thru November), so you can honestly never tell, no matter what island you are on.
My suggestion would be to plan the trip you want, and take out trip insurance. After all, you can't predict anything at all, and you can't always limit your travel to December thru May.
Good luck! In my own experience, you really have a limited chance of hitting a hurricane in the week or two you may be in the islands. And, if you do, just look at is as an "experience and adventure."

I agree with everything Statia has to say...and would only add that in addition to Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, the other safest bets (relatively speaking, of course) are Barbados, Trinidad, and Tobago.
I've traveled to a couple of places in late August and have been lucky with the weather. However, one thing I was happy I had was air conditioning in the bedroom during August--something I don't normally demand during other times of the year down there.
Enjoy! And let us know what you decide.

Amen to E.J. Crowe's comments; your biggest problem may well be the heat rather than a storm. We just got back from St. John (April 27-May 11) and it was mid to high 80's with very high humidity the entire time.
Also, to show how unpredictable storms are, they'd had a big tropical storm in April before we arrived (and well before the official season) that dumped nearly 8 inches of rain on them, causing the mosquito population to explode. So you just never know. Indeed, make very certain that you have a good air conditioner!
