canopy tours negril

Anyone have any information about the Chukka Canopy tours and where they are located? I can't find much info on their site and it gives 2 e-mail addresses but does not say which one is in the Ochi area or the Negril/Montego Bay area. Anyone done this excursion? Also, anyone know if CocoLaPalm has any kind of tour desk? Maybe I can book with them? Thanks for any advice.

I know that many have had great experiences with Solomon Kerr, "Talk of the Town Tours", I believe.

Carolyn Barrett also does some wonderful tours.

I'm sure if you go to the search box, you'll find info and web addresses for both.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Marion,
I found Carolyns e-mail address on the forum but when I type in [email protected], it takes me to links for Fodors forums! I did just e-mail Solomon so maybe that will pan out. He did not advertise it on his site. I suppose I can always check it out after I get there, but was looking for some options beforehand. Do you think Chukka Blue Cove might be Ochi and Blue Mountain the Negril/MoB area? That is what I seemed to gather. I am definitely a net surfer but I can't seem to find a lot of info on this tour. We would like to try it because we might not have the opportunity to do it again.

I understand the need to schedule things beforehand ;-)

I'm sure you will hear from Solomon..I also checked for Carolyn's site, without success.

Tiverton would be able to help you with an address for her.

I think it is "Benj" who has posted here about Solomon. Try clicking on his name and see what comes up.

I am far from a computer whiz, but I'll check my files for you.

Thanks Marion!
I have e-mails out to Solomon, Carolyn and another named Errol that was recommended by CaribbeanSoul. Think something will work out. Both Solomon and Carolyns websites indicate that they will cater to your needs, but at this point, I would be looking at rather short notice. Since it is the holiday weekend, I don't expect to hear much for a few days.

We used Soloman Kerr & were very pleased. He does arrange a tour for whatever your interests are. He & his wife, Sienna, are loads of help in planning your trip too. Our "picky" daughter wanted banana ice cream & they took us to 3 places til we found it. Their patience & love of the area shows in their dealings with you. Our favorite part of the day was when they took us to 3 Dives for dinner. We had the best grilled lobster dinner (2 lobsters for $20 US) while watching an incredible sunset from the cliffs. It is a very informal place but you get great food, sunsets & local flavor.

Thanks for the input. I heard from Soloman. What a nice guy! He said the the company that does the Canopy Tours (Chukka Blue) for the Negril/MoB area will not allow private drivers to bring people to the tour. They only use their own. I got the idea from a post on trip advisor. The most recent post there said that Chukka Tours pick you up then many other hotel guests on the way and the ride takes about 2 hours. Think I will just wait til we get there and decide if we want to do it.

Hi Brenandg,

I'm a little confused.

The Chukka Canopy tours is one company, and from what I know a bit commercialized.

Part of the reason I suggested Solomon and/or Carolyn is that they do individualized tours.

Unless I'm way off base in my thinking, Solomon will give you an individualized tour and is certainly free to take you wherever you want to go

He may be more costly than Chukka, but I think you will have a more enjoyable outing.I have never toured with Solomon, but from all that I've read, it sounds like you would see more of the real Jamaica with him.

This is interesting. Carolyn responded with the same answer. Apparently Chukka wants the monoploy on the business as far as transportation goes. She said as well that Chukka will not let private drivers on the property. Not sure why this would be unless they need to limit the number of people who do the tour. Think we will decide after we get there what to do. Thanks for your input. BTW, Carolyn and Soloman both said they could do customized tours, just not this particular one.
