Caneel Bay on St. John
We want to go to Caneel Bay in late Sept. Has anyone been there then? Hurricanes aside, how was weather? We want a cabin with no one above us, on Scott Beach, is that possible?? Can you just do the meal plan a few days during a stay but not the whole time? How was noise level? We want it very quiet. Thank you for any information.

The "premium rooms" on Scotts Beach are all single level rooms.....very nice and only steps from the water. They are set up as duplexes and there is a not so soundproof door between the units. (though it really is not a problem unless you've got really noisy neighbors.
As I understand it, you must make your choice on whether or not to be on a meal plan as soon as you arrive and cannot change during mid-week.
Good luck!

My husband and I stayed at Caneel Bay in late August, 2000. We had a premium room on Scott's Beach - in my opinion, the only way to go. It was very private and quiet, especially because that is their low season. There would be times when we were the only people on Scott's Beach. We were on a meal plan the entire time, but I was told that we could have split it up while we were there - be on the meal plan for part of the week, be off the meal plan for part of the week. You probably should call Rosewood directly to ask them. As I see you are aware, that time of the year is hurricane season. When my husband and I arrived at Caneel Bay on a Sunday, we were informed that Hurricane Debbie was headed for the island. On Monday we had to evacuate, and we went back home. On Thursday, we were able to fly back to St. Thomas and stay at Caneel Bay for our honeymoon - thank goodness! When we got back to Caneel Bay, the weather was wonderful - sunny and warm. It did not rain, and it was not unbearably hot.

Thank you so much for info. My husband and I are both turning 50 within a month and we want to have a special trip, quiet, solitude, much beach time, preferably mostly alone. Are there any rooms which we must absolutely avoid??? Thank you for any info.

I am usually in the VI's early October and it's delightful with few people. However, if there is a hurricane ... so you must think about trip insurance since late September/early October is prime time! Scott's Beach has onestory units so you are fine. Most places will let you go on a meal plan once you arrive but few will let you drop off. You might want to check to see if Caneel still has the policy that you can opt for it for part of your stay if you want. It is nice not to have to drive/taxi into Town every nite but just enjoy the locale. I highly recommend Turtle Bay. End of September should be low children time and Scott's and Paradise Beaches (right next to Scott's) are designated as child-free so that shouldn't be a problem.
