Cancun or Cozumel?
My husband and I are hoping to get away in June. We want to see the Tulum ruins, Chichen Itza, and XCarat. However, we just can't decide whether to stay in Cancun or Cozumel. We want a nice place, shopping, activities (snorkeling, biking), cute little neighborhood places, and some of the conveniences from home. Are we asking too much? Also, the price we have been quoted for air and hotel is about $1,100.00 from Denver (5-7 nights) Is that decent? ANY advice would be appreciated - this will be our first time in Mexico.
Thank you! Lisa

blow off cancun. it is too touristy and too exspensive. try playa del carmen. it will meet all your needs. i spent christmas there and liked it much better than cancun or cozumel. cancun has 5 mcdonalds and a walmart and many americanized malls. it looked like miami or las vegas to me.

We were in Cozumel last spring and found it very enjoyable - fantastic snorkelling, interesting shopping, easy to get around. Being on an island is nice - especially since there is only one town on the entire island it is easy to get away from people.
Chichen Itza is wonderful - We flew over (45 min in 12 seater). I would definitly try to go EARLY in the morning - by noon the plaza is steaming hot, and extremly crowded. I can only assume in June it would be much hotter. If you do the flyover be forewarned there are steep departure taxes that the tour operators don't emphasize (about $20. a person) that is paid at both airports - that is not included in the cost of the trip.
I have never been to Cancun, but from what I've heard from friends it is much more of a "college spring break" mentality.

I Believe that you would have all you needs and requirements met in Cancun. I have stayed at two different hotels the Westin and Continental Villas, and enjoyed both. I believe for you best dollar value check into an Apple Tour. Cancun is modern because it is a created tourist spot, however it does have alot of natural beauty. Where else can you go to a plaza (mall) and have the beauty of a lagoon steps away. All of the things you want to do can be set up by an Apple Rep. at your hotel. The Tulum trip is not to be missed. If you go to Chichen Itza take a large amount of water. It is located in the middle of a flat plane and nears 100 degreen by 10am. Please try Captains Cove for their wonderful breakfast buffet, $7.95 or the seafood buffet. You can sit outside and the fish will swim right under where you are sitting. Planet Hollywood is fun with good food. Please contact me if I can give you any further information.

My husband and I just returned from a 4 night stay in Cancun. We traveled through Vacation Express and stayed at the Sun Palace, an all-inclusive resort. We were very disappointed in the food and service during our stay. The people of Cancun were not very friendly, and customer service is not a priority. If you are looking for a place to party with young people and lay on the beach, Cancun may be for you...Otherwise, don't waste your money.....

I definately agree with Jean Bowers. Your needs will surely be met in Cancun. I have never had such a fantastic time as I did in Cancun and returning this Feb. The people in Cancun ARE
very cordial, friendly, helpful and they are there to do nothing but please you. Susan must have had a bad experience and maybe she expected too much but I have NEVER heard anyone say that about the people in Cancun. If you choose, you could always split your vacation to 3 days in Cancun and 4 at Cozumel or vice versa as Apple Vacations or Funjet does that too. Cozumel is a little more laid back but also very beautiful and friendly place to visit. Have fun whatever you choose. Don't go all inclusive as there is way too much in Cancun and Cozumel to experience in the ways of restaurants.
