Biking on Vieques?

Greetings;
We're headed to Vieques in early April and my spouse is a serious cyclist who's contemplating shipping a bike for the vacation. We've already checked into the mountain bike rentals and guided tours. Are the roads or paths suitable for biking?
Many thanks.

I don't know about bike paths, but I can tell you that the roads are unsuitable for bike riding. They're very narrow and would be unsafe for your spouse.

some roads are only wide enough for 1 car at a time. I get nearly driven off the road daily by someone coming around the corner on the opposite side of the road.
But, over in the west end there are lots of roads through the navy bunkers, that would make for nice biking. And up over Mt. Pirata. Not a lot of traffic out that way.

Have you chatted with the folks at Black Beard Sports in Isabel II? This is a new store, which rents bikes and (I think) takes guided tours. We found them very knowledgable. I'm certain they would give you an honest answer.

Karl at the Vieques Visitor is a biker, and really, really helpful. He should be able to give you more info.
