Best Nevis hikes for kids

We'll be visiting Nevis this coming spring with our 7-year-old, and I'm looking into the best hikes for a kid that age. I know that some can be quite challenging. Can anyone recommend certain trails or an outfitter/guide that specializes in dealing with families?

Also, is the Under the Sea marine life center still open? I haven't been able to find any info and the website appears inactive.

Thanks for your help!

The Under the Seas Center has been closed for a couple of years - the owner left the sland.

There are lots of fairly easy hikes:

The Ruins at New River & Coconut Walk
Jessups Rain Forest
Mountravas Estate
Golden Rock's Lower Portion of The Source Hike.
Saddle Hill
Plus many more

Go to the Tourist Office in Charlestown for a map showing the location of the trails - they will also had a list reputable Guides.

Let me add this to my earlier reply:

1) Stop at the Golden Rock Inn office - they have a well marked trail map for the lower portion of the Source Hike (do the lower portion only, the higher section will be difficult for your 7YO). We took our granddaughter there often starting when she was 5. It's a great hike since you get the feeling you are deep in the rain forest without actually being too far from the Inn.

2) Another easy hike is the ruins of the Eden Brown Estate - it's just a short walk off the main island road.

3) If you do the new River/Coconut walk hike (again not far off the main island road) you can either hike or drive further down toward the sea to discover the Lime Kiln.

Consider taking your child to Peak Heaven - it's a privately owned nature preserve. You'll have to pay an entrance fee but there are several hiking trails you can do.

There are over 40 different hiking trails around Nevis - not all of which are well known - a many are suitable for your 7 YO - so happy hiking.

All great suggestions from RoamsAround, as usual, and I'd like to second the recommendation for Peak Heaven. They have a guided hike, and they also have a great playground area and some "old-fashioned" table games, as well.

There is a good small restaurant with a terrific view and some chattel houses and a display of old tools and implements as used in former times. Interesting for adults as well. You could spend at least half a day there.
