Best Caribbean Vacation

I am looking to go to the Caribbean and need your opinion on the Best Vacation you've ever had in the region: where to stay, etc. I can spend approximately $100 - $200 a night for hotel accommodations.
Thanks in advance!!

Christina, Good luck in finding someplace in the caribbean at those rates. I've been looking high and low and can't seem to find anything less than $285/night in the caribbean, unless of course you are considering off-season. The exception was Rockhouse in Jamaica. They had great rates but don't allow children, which wouldn't work for me, but might for you!

If you can consider going off-season, the rates for accomodations drop off very nicely. Check out villas on St. John to see what I mean. Their "low" season starts around mid-April. We got a villa there for about $1050 in July 2000 and also have one booked for this coming July @ about $1500 for the week. Also hear that the Westin, if you prefer a resort, sometimes runs nice specials; you might also check out Gallows Point.

Off-season is a fine time to go for me. Also, I may consider spending up to $250 a night. Please continue with the great advice.
Thanks,
Christina

I would really look into Negril. It has one of the best beaches in the Caribbean and there are tons of smaller, less expensive places to stay. Town area is great.

I to was looking for something in that price range, and have found many condos that are in that price range on Grand Cayman. You must go in the off season to get those rates, we found May to be perfect. Try looking at: www.caymanvacations.com

Hi
if you want a very quiet island with good security I can propose to you St Bart. I have a good friend who rent a NEW cottage in a tropical garden and private pool. You can see the rates on
http://www.st-barths.com/les-creolines/index.html
The price is with car rental include.
good luck

Unless you're looking for lots of shopping or nightlife, ditto the suggestion for a villa on St. John. Good food, great scenery, great beaches, and lots of opportunities for hiking and relaxing. It's a lot less crowded and commercial than most other islands, which is part of the reason we loved it.

Christina, I would suggest looking at some package deals and alot of resorts are offering MUCH better rates right now to encourage people to travel again.

I would suggest the www.libertytravel.com site as a good starting point. They specalize in the Carribean and you can get good ideas of several locations, islands some will even include meals. I have used Liberty several times and have always gotten a great deal, but you do have to look around a bit.

In you price rage there are several nice places I could recommend in the Bahams on Nassau and some of the family islands. Even the Atlantis has some specials going on right now.

Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Just got back from RIU Tropical on Negril...It is a WINNER and got a great rate from Phila. thru Apple Vactions. Great beach ,friendly helpful staff and thought the food was good for an all-inclusive..This hotel is new and except for that 2hour bumpy bus ride from the airport(i suggest a $60 15 minute plane instead)was a wonderful trip...

I notice no one ever mentions where they are flying from! That could make a big difference in what destinations are best! January is high season so whereever that poster is finding prices, you'll find even better ones in the shoulder or off season. Shoulder is usually Easter thru Labor Day (roughly) and off season is Labor Day thru the week before Christmas (excluding Thanksgiving weekend). For best beaches (in approx price order), try Playa Del Carmen (near Cancun), Negril, Jamaica (Riu Tropicale Bay has lots of specials right now), Punta Cana, Grand Cayman or Aruba. St Martin and St Thomas are great for shopping and beaches are still good there too but more "touristy" because they are probably the biggest cruise ship stops. St Lucia and Dominica are the most "tropical" but you give up a little as far as beaches go.

Hi Christina,

We've been to lots of the islands and St. Kitts is our favorite and the best value for your dollar. It is clean, safe, has excellent water and plenty to do. They have hiking in the rainforest or to the volcano, lots of historic buildings from the 1600s, Brimstone Hill Fortress, great unspoiled beaches with snorkeling, restored great houses, lots of charm and reasonable prices. You can't ask for more - we've found our paradise.
Check out http://www.timothybeach.com (Timothy Beach Resort). It's a great place and the only hotel right on the Caribbean beach. There are a number of options including one bedroom suites with kitchens and living rooms within your price range. The sunsets from the balconies are great. The pool and restaurant are right on the Caribbean. Have fun with your search. Let me know if you have any questions.
Beth
