Best Caribbean Resort?

In your honest opinion, what is the best overall resort in the Caribbean? Your comments will help me decide where to go on my honeymoon in June. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hard question to answer, because some like plush, yuppie surroundings, with a 5-star atmosphere. Others like laid-back, non-touristry places with local flavor. I like the later, and enjoy no TV, Banana boats, wind surfers, and hype, and where you're forced to enjoy the area by your own imagination. With that in mind, I would recommend Guana Seaside Village and Resort on Great Guana Cay, an outer cay in the Sea of Abaco off of Great Abaco Island, Bahamas. When you're at the bar, and Glenn gets a call for something, you'll have to man the bar and serve drinks to the, maybe, half dozen voyagers who pass by in a day's time, until Glenn gets back from his errand. Roscoe, we have to agree with Robert that without knowing a little bit about your tastes it's very hard to zero in on something that comes close---we've been to a ton of Caribbean resorts. So I'll start with what I want. I want laid-back and low key. I want small; not more than 100 guests. I MUST have outstanding views right from my window and there has to be a nice shaded porch or balcony off our room. I want very good food and want everything to be in a location that has a good breeze so I don't have to have A/C. Now here's what I DON'T want (or, at least, I won't pay money for). I don't want gold-plated faucets; those are for people who want to play rich. I don't want liveried bellboys and stuffy restaurants. I don't want to be in, be near, or even see in the distance a high rise building of any type, not even a hospital! I prefer not to see any other resort anywhere nearby and want to feel as though we are alone in tropical paradise. And I very definitely want quiet and privacy. As to the island itself, it HAS TO have friendly people, it HAS TO be mountainous, and it HAS TO NOT be crowded. And it would be very nice if I didn't have to fly far.
We've been on a number of islands in the last XX years and have found 2 places that fill the bill. Both are in the British Virgin Islands.
Our first choice is Frenchman's Cay Resort written up in Travel & Liesure about 10 years ago. It's on Tortola. You get your own small villa and there are only 7 for rent. The restaurant is very good and service is simple and friendly. The view is quite simply the best Caribbean view I've ever seen and lounging on the porch has become nearly a profession for us. Their Deluxe Tropical Delights package which has a car in it is great value. Go to bviwelcome.com, click on lodgings.
Second choice is Biras Creek on Virgin Gorda. The price is considerably higher and there are more people, but the layout is nicer and you'd get a better idea of it if you went to scubamom.com and checked it out.

Check out Cap Jaluca resort on Anguilla. Also try the Carl Gustav or Le Toiny in St. Barth's. These are VERY upscale and laid back resorts on VERY beautiful, upscale and laid back islands. Both have absolutely fabulous restaurants, but no high rises or casinos.

I agree with Cheri's choices and you might add Guanahani in St. Barths,The 4 seasons on Nevis and Sandy Lane in Barbados. Sandy Lane just reopened this month after almost a 3 year renovation. It has always been fabulous but now it is EXTREMELY pricey.
(But hopefully you have only 1 honeymoon). The 4 seasons, Nevis is really my favorite. Good luck.
We just returned from St. Barth's last night. Stayed at the Guanahani Resort. Stayed in villa type room with a private deck and pool. Very exclusive and very private. Not sure if it was really worth the $1200 per night charge. There are many other beautiful places for less than half the price. Sereno Beach Hotel and Filao Beach are good choices and the properties are smack on the beach.
