We recently rented a condo at Rum Point, Grand Cayman and would highly recommend it. Snorkeling was great, just a short walk right out the door. I used VRBO, and had direct contact w/owner who was extremely helpful and full of tips for day trips. Rental car a must, so you can easily drive anywhere on the island for shopping, dining, water sports, etc. (Condo info. ~ Retreat at Rum Point #24 , VRBO #305048). It was a 3 bedroom, but there are smaller units at the Retreat. Rum Point Club is right next door, good food.

I did not answer an earlier questiom about Andros. There is little off-the-beach snorkeling but if you stay at a place like Small Hope Lodge, quite resonably priced, they take you out daily. St. Thomas is almost a zero except in one or two spots. T&C I would rate a 3-4 out of 10 a GC a 5 both becvause of the coral dying due to global warming and pollution. St. John still holds 1st place with a 6.5-7 off Caneekl Bay if you take a small tour boat with 8-10 guests like Captain Double D. You have to go to Belize or Roatan, Honduras to get somewhat better.
