Bermuda - Sonesta or Elbow?

When we were there they had just completed $40 million worth of renovations. The lobby was very elegant and grounds beautiful but the rooms were neither. I can't even imagine what they must have looked like before the redo. Unfortunately, the condition of the rooms really put a damper on our vacation. At $500+ a night this was supposed to be a dream vacation for us and I was expecting something MUCH nicer than what we got.

Michelle, which room did you stay in? We booked a beach bungalow, which was musty and not very nice. We returned to the front desk after seeing the room, told them we were dissapointed with it and they immediately upgraded us to a deluxe ocean view room in the main hotel which was lovely. The rooms were like night and day in terms of quality. Stay in the main hotel.

We went last October and thought the hotel was wonderful, in a great location and would return in a heartbeat. Oh, we only paid $ 165/night, so it was a real bargain.

Elbow beach is much, much nicer than the Sonesta. We took a peak at the Sonesta. If you thought Elbow's rooms weren't up to par (and again, I have to believe you were staying in the beach bungalows), then you'd positively hate Sonesta.

IMHO, the Sonesta is so much nicer than Elbow Beach. We have stayed at the Sonesta several times and the accommodations as well as the service rendered were tremendous. Staff goes out of their way to be helpful. We've talked with people who were staying at Elbow Beach and none of them gave rave reviews on this establishment and said they would probably not return there again.
