beach erosion in negril
i'm headed back to negril this winter. i have heard that the beach erosion has really gotten bad, particularly up by mariposa and lazy dayz. has anyone been near rondel village lately? how is the beach there? can anyone speak about the erosion and whether the local government has a plan?
p.s. i'm going anyway....

Haven't been since last year, but where are you staying? I find that the beach comes and goes in several places, especially including the TREE HOUSE area.
We've never had a problem staying at a hotel in the middle of the beach. Have you looked at COCO LA PALM, IDLE AWHILE, or CHARELA INN?

we're staying at rondel, most likely (we're 27 people!). last year we stayed at beachcomber club, but several members of my family were unhappy with the run-down condition of the bathrooms/beds and do not want to repeat. i've stayed at both before and i'm not as picky. i think beachcomber has the best part of the beach, but i'm worried as i took many walks last year and occasionally there was no beach at all!
are you going back this year? (i've been to jamaica 13 times; stayed at rockhouse, white sands, b.club, rondel in negril).

Not going back this year because we're going to Turks. If I'm not mistaken, isn't Beachcomber down at the Negril Beach Club end of the beach? If so, I don't really think of that as the best part of the beach. I really like the middle of the beach in front of COCO and IDLE AWHILE. Did you look at either of those properties? We have stayed often at Coco because it's affordable and has pretty comfortable rooms. However, you do have to look out for a boisterous crowd during prime vacation weeks. Guess that could be true anywhere on the beach?
BTW, you're catching up to me... I've been to Jamaica over 30 times, but never stayed on the cliffs!

my first time was the cliffs, lol. the rest of my trips have been to staffed houses all over from port antonio to runaway bay, montego to trelawny. but i love negril the most! the cliffs are spectacular, but not on a trip with little kids. i did look at coco and idle, but not enough room and with 6 family groups we've found that villas work better than regular rooms. beachcomber is next to margaritaville and still has a wide wide beach. some places were so bad you had to wait for the waves to go out to walk in the water back on to the beach.
i've never been to turks, but was looking for this trip. where do you stay there?

I don't know why I forgot the location of Beachcomber! DUH.
We stayed at West Bay Club last year in Provo. It's a lot more $$ than Coco la Palm, which is where we usually stay in Negril, but the accommodations and - dare I admit this - the beach were much, much nicer. On top of that, it's a short flight from the East Coast ( about three hours nonstop) and only a 15 minute ride to the hotel.
But... there's very little nightlife, and it's missing that Caribbean vibe/Jamaican culture that I so love in Negril.
