barbados/grenada?
I'm cosidering a trip to Grenada in December. I spent 10 days in Barbados and had a fabulous trip. It was a very relaxing trip as well as a wonderful cultural and scenic experience. I want to experience something different and wonder if Grenada will be too much the same? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for somewhere that is tropical and relatively safe like Barbados (travel solo), where I can self-drive, as well as ride public transport, and truly experience the culture of the people? A lot to ask for but hopefully? Thanks for any suggestions.

Other than both are beautiful Caribbean islands, I don't find many similarities between the two. I like Barbados but I love Grenada. It's far more mountainous, with great hiking and pristine waterfalls. The beaches are not quite as white as those on Barbados, but they are still quite lovely. The main roads are in pretty good repair and since the World Cricket Cup last year, the main roads are actually pretty well signed.
The West Indian culture is stronger on Grenada than Barbados, which really appeals to me. You can drive a car on your own (I did that for just over a week earlier this year) or take the public transport. Lots of great restaurants to check out, in all price ranges.
I traveled as a solo woman to Grenada earlier this year and felt totally safe everywhere I went on the island. I'd be glad to make recommendations to you on places to stay if Grenada sounds appealing to you.

*sigh* Grenada. Take me with you! We left a piece of our hearts there. Go, you won't be disappointed. The people are wonderful and the Grenadians are proud of their island and culture.
I'm working on my trip report and will hopefully have it up by Monday.
Happy planning.

I should say that you could go back and find my quick trip report posted here in May, or you could go to www.grenadatravelforum.com to read the full one (it's about 15 pages' worth of report. That site is also full of other great reports, including an amazing one being updated daily now by Anse, one of the moderators who's been visiting the island for years now.
