Most of the Out Islands are reachable via local air carriers via Nassau, so we really need to know more about what you're looking for. There are many Out Islands, with varying degrees of amenities, and a range of prices, so we need to have an idea of how much you're willing to spend and how much comfort/predictability you'd like.
As for "good food," be warned that there are only a handful of standout restaurants in all of the Out Islands. The rest are all fine, but the best bets are locally caught conch and fish, and not haute cuisine.

Take an Abaco Air flight to Marsh Habour then the short ferry to Hopetown, Elbow Cay. It's like a Cape Cod meets The Bahamas, wonderfully laid back and some pretty good restaurants.
Unless you like over development and mega resorts don't spend a minute longer than you to do in Nassau. Nasty place.
