Atlantis,Sandals or Aruba Hyatt for Honeymoon???

Kicking around the idea of honeymooning in the Bahamas, but I hear mixed reviews about Sandals and Atlantis. Basically looking for pool and beach lounging time, with some good food in between.
My other choice is Aruba, since I know the weather will be good in August and I hear the Hyatt is the nicest place and best pools?
Thanks in advance...

I would pick Aruba...fun place, great weather, beautiful beaches. The Hyatt was very nice. We stayed at the Radisson though and with all of their recent renovations, I think it might be a better choice than the Hyatt. I don't think you'll go wrong with either though!

If you go, definitel do the Jolly Pirates snorleing cruise, the Kukoo Kunuku party bus and have dinner at El Gaucho!

And the Radisson definitely has the best beach I saw.

If you read the threads on this forum on Atlantis I think you will get the general consensus that Atlantis is far from the ideal locale for a honeymoon - overcrowded and full of kids - might as well go to Disney. There are also not so good reviews on the Sandals in JA and mixed reviews on the Hyatt Aruba. One of my good friends (who is very picky and always seems to go for the best) had her husband surprise her with a honeymoon last June at one of the two Sandals resorts in the Bahamas - the bigger of the two. She came back extremely happy! She was so pleased with his choice and had a great time - so you may wish to consider that. The weather would be nice and warm and I am sure you will get your pool and beach lounging along with good enough food.

I keep hearing that El Gaucho is overated? Is it really that good, or more of a touristy must see spot?
Any comments on:
Le Dôme’s
PAPIAMENTO
L'ESCALE
Madame Jeanette's

El Gaucho is definitely not overrated. Best steak I have ever eaten. We also ate at Madame Janette's. Also very good. Romantic atmosphere, good seafood.

Kristen,
when were you there, for a honeymoon?
Do you have any trip reports or any other info you can offer, it is appreciated! What was your favorite casino? How is the seafood on the island? Also, is Aruba not as caribbeanish as other islands, in terms of say hearing steel drum music playing in the background everywhere?
thanks

Sandals Royal Bahamian is where my friend had her honeymoon last June - if her enthusiasm is anything to go by, then you should consider that one.

Here are my 10 top recommendations for great dinning in Aruba & be sure to make reservations for outside seating so you can take in the beautiful & spectacular views of the ocean, the warm breezes of the tradewinds, great staff & very romantic & yes there are a lot of fast food places:

1. Ventanas del Mar Restaurant - located at the Tierra del Sol Country Club & Golf Course - over looks the California Lighthouse the golf course & the ocean - International cuisine -www.tierradelsol.com/

2. La Trattria el Faro Blanco - located next to the California Lighthouse & overlooks the ocean -
www.aruba-latrattoria.com/

3. Ruinas Del Mar - located at the Hyatt Resort - ask about dinning for two on the beach by candlelight, you won't be disappointed - although its very expensive but superb cuisine -Continental cuisine -www.aruba.hyatt.com/property/hotelinfo/dining/index.jhtml?ssnav=0

4. Brisas del Mar - Seafood & Arubian cuisine - ask to be seated on the patio - www.brisasdelmar.com/

5. Please don't go to Atlantis for your honeymoon unless:
1) you're only getting married to your US citizen wife to get rid of your green card and you want a quick, disposable marriage

2) you already have 4 hyperactive kids under the age of 6 and you need a destination that will distract them while you're honeymooning

3) your fiancee is a very social 9 year old

4) you live in a trailer in rural Mississippi and you need some culturin' so's you can lern to be s'fisticatd an' stuff

5) you have plenty of money but went to the Tom Arnold school of taste and culture

Stan-

I was in Aruba from September 6 - 10. It wasn't a honeymoon (but along those lines, a pre-honeymoon vactaion I'd call it . The island doesn't have as much as a caribbean atmoshpere as many islands...I'd say it's probably a little more Latin if I had to define it. But it depends where you go. They do like american 60s, 70s and 80s music though! Aruba seems to have it's own style and atmosphere. If you go to places like Iguana Joe's though in town, you will definitely get the caribbean atmosphere.

The casinos at the Radisoon and Hyatt were nice though if you've been to Vegas it's no comparison. They are relatively small but nice. Palm Beach is gorgeous though with grass cabanas to sit under. Great place to watch the sunsets, as well.

The seafood is good. I wanted to try the Flying Fishbone at the south end of the island but we didn't get a chance (you will need a car to get there or you can take a cab but that is very pricey). Most of the tabels on right in the sand...try to get a reservation at about 6:30 so you can watch the sunset.

I don't think you will be disppointed in Aruba!

If you do choose the Bahamas though...I'd recommend staying on Paradise Island as opposed to Nassau.

Ok first off, I just returned from Atlantis about 3weeks ago and Yes it was my honeymoon. We loved the resort and it was not overcrowded. It is an amazing resort. We also stayed at the Sandals Royal Bahamian last May when my sister was married there. it was also very beautiful. I feel if you want to relax sandals is a much better choice only because their are no kids its adults only.
