Aruba or Grand Cayman?

hi: When we were in Grand Cayman in May I said to my husband strolling 7 mile beach, this place is almost as nice as Aruba. That probably sums it up. Beautiful beaches in either destination, Sept. is hurricane season and Aruba is out of the belt may be a second reason to choose Aruba. The Hyatt there is gorgeous, great grounds, rest. and on beautiful Palm Beach! Karen

Haven't been to Grand Cayman, but loved the Hyatt Aruba. I do a lot of travel research and as a member of the Hyatt Vacation Club feel like I know the Hyatts pretty well -- my sense is that Hyatt Grand Cayman has much more property (more sprawling) the Aruba proerty was pretty compact. Check out website www.Hyatt.com. Also I understand Grand Cayman is pretty expensive ($10 drinks) while we found Aruba to be very reasonable compared to other Caribbean destinations. One more think, Hyatt Aruba right on beach while a majority of the rooms in GC are not, look at the photos.

I've been to Aruba and Grand CAyman. The beaches were much nicer in my opinion, in Aruba. Also, Aruba is slightly less expensive, and has much more natural beauty. On the other hand, if you are a diver, you may prefer GC. The Hyatt in Aruba was the nicest hotel there, and everyone would agree. The Hyatt in GC was on a nice beach, but I hear that most of the grounds are across the hwy, from the beach. Not good. Grand Cayman was okay, but it really didn't stand out. The people of Aruba are so amazingly nice too, which I didn't find as much in GC. Anyway you go, I'm sure you'll have a good time.

The people of Cayman are very friendly --- trouble is, the island is so overrun by expats living & working there that you probably won't meet too many of them unless you get out away from the Seven Mile Beach area. Your waiter will probably be from NJ or Texas & your maid will most likely be Jamaican.
I haven't been to Aruba yet, but I wasn't impressed with the Hyatt GC. It's nicely appointed, but very formal. I think it's haunted mostly by golfers & corporate types. Food was okay, about average for Cayman (not known for great eats). Too big a hassle to get to the beach and/or the pool.
